I haven't baked in several months. As a baker who baked almost every day, this feels like a sin. But in any case, it has even been longer since I last brought the camera into the kitchen to take some photographs of the baking. In the olden days, I used to take so many photographs of the bread to try and sell it. At one point, I had 15 or so clients all of who bought bread just because of the photographs. After a series of lockdowns in the country I find myself in, I lost all the clients. To this day, I do not know why. Maybe the breads were not to their liking any longer, but they never complained.
I also almost opened a bakery in 2018/2019. Luckily, I did not spend any of my money. The series of lockdowns would certainly have crashed my business because I know of so many others who lost their businesses. Or I might have struck gold if I could have delivered the breads? Who knows. The fact is I am baking no longer, just once in a while when the urge to eat bread overwhelms me.
Like this weekend. I picked up the camera and brought it into the kitchen and took a couple of "breadscape" photographs. This is a very lame play on words, landscapes and breads, haha. In any case, I thought it interesting to showcase these freshly baked breads, the unbaked loaves, and the baskets I "proof" (rest) the unbaked loaves in. The linen fell perfectly in the kitchen light and I want to draw them with pencil soon. I should make some art from the process as well!
I hope that you enjoy these photographs from the "kitchen" bakery! The breads turned out so lovely and I paired it with some browned butter. If you have never had sourdough bread with browned butter, you are in for a treat! But that is for a later post in the food community. For now, please enjoy these "breadscapes"!

Postscriptum, or Sometimes I Think Of Art Galleries
Sometimes I find myself in the daydreaming mode of imagining my photographs hanging in a studio or gallery. Therefore, the pretentious titles of these photographs above. For the moment, I am thinking of myself as an artist who printed his photographs and they are hanging in the gallery. What a nice thought. Making art from food! Or, food is art. Funny thoughts.
In any case, I hope you enjoyed this rather playful idea I worked on for a while. Breadscapes are funny. But oh my, they are tasty. I wish I could send some to your door!
For now, enjoy these artistic photographs of my bread.
Happy photographing, stay safe.
All of the photographs are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and Nikkor 50mm lens. The musings are also my own.
