In the last few days, the oceans have created havoc in the coastal areas. Many people have lost their vehicles, someone died, and various properties have been damaged. But in all this chaos and craziness, there is tremendous beauty. I am not 100% sure about the science behind what we experienced recently, but the ocean has been "frothing" up. The "cream" coloured and textured foam that collects in specific enclaves makes for some interesting almost abstract-looking artworks/photographs.
The feeling these photographs evoke is something strange, at once, it feels like I am looking at a big cup of coffee, and on the other hand, I know I am looking at the ocean. If I would give into my intrusive thoughts, I would jump in fully expecting the frothy ocean to taste like coffee of caramel cream. But it is really beautiful nonetheless.
So in this post, I want to share with you a couple of photographs I took of the frothy ocean which looks like abstract artworks. If I could, I would sketch these photographs with charcoal on a big white canvas.
Postscriptum, or Would You?
My mind cannot comprehend these photographs. I want to dip my whole head into the ocean and drink it like a cup of coffee. I asked what she thinks about them and she said the words: "Cream Noir". And that became the title of the post. The whole feeling linked to these photographs has a feeling of pulling you in, as if this is the end. It tries to suck you into it, into its depths. Jumping into the water would surely be one's end. The constant pummeling of waves makes one question one's own movement, one's own breath. Like the frothy waves, the crashing of oxygen in one's lungs, the in-and-out of one's breathing, metaphorical waves crashing and crashing.
In any case, I hope you like these photographs. Please do tell me in the comments how they made you feel. It would be interesting to hear your opinion.
For now, happy photographing and stay safe.
The photographs used in this post are my own, taken with my Nikon D300 and 18-70mm lens. The writings are also my own.
