Yesterday on my way to the forest, the first discovery at the edge of the forest was once again very telling. While I had come across a delicate yellow lily a few days ago, this time it was a beautiful blue one. I was quite surprised to find one again. Or was I simply not paying enough attention in previous years to notice it so special? Every year, it seems to me as if I'm constantly discovering something new that was perhaps always there before, but was never in my focus.
A somewhat unexpected sight, however, was this pit in the middle of the forest and off the path. It was more or less provisionally fenced in, and a sign indicated that geological work had once taken place here. What were they looking for here? I don't think they were looking for relics from the past. Perhaps it was more about examining the soil itself. At least, that's what it looked like when you got closer: a small pit where you could examine the layers of earth very closely. I immediately noticed that it was very dry when I looked at the layers. It's much too dry at the moment anyway. It's been a while since we've had any real rain.
I sat on this old hunting blind for about an hour, hoping to spot animals if I was quiet enough and the wind was blowing just right, but I didn't have much luck. On the way here, I came across a deer and a few hares, and as so often happens, my camera wasn't ready. Many of these encounters are over very quickly, and you don't really have time to react. That's why I often linger in tree stands like these. You don't always have to be lucky to see something. For me, it's more about simply enjoying the peace and quiet for that hour, or often longer.
Further along the path, I discovered this little pond. As I approached, I had the brief feeling that something had moved nearby. I noticed it more out of the corner of my eye. But I didn't find anything. Maybe it was just a branch in the wind. Often, your eyes and ears play tricks on you in the forest. Especially when it's so quiet. You can feel your ears trying to locate sounds or your eyes trying to catch a glimpse of something, even if it's just the slightest movement.
This day was once again balm for my soul, and this beautiful blue lily perfectly underscored it. Nature has once again added a memorable pop of color, which I'm bringing here to bring you a little joy. Thanks for stopping by!🙃✌️
