It has been a long, hot and difficult week.
Probably the worst I could have chosen for doing farm work. But I had arranged my trip before the weather forecast let us know about the extreme heat wave that hit Greece and I couldn't afford a whole week just waiting for the weather to cool down.
With temperatures above 40 °C (104 °F) in the noon and the air remaining hot all night long, it was a challenge to work outdoors.
But it's over now and I am, slowly, taking the road back home.
I saw the last sunset by the sea, I said goodbye to the stray cat that was lying on my doorstep all those days, I paid my respects to the land of my ancestors and hit the road once more.
My next stop is a two hours drive from the motorway but I chose a different route from smaller and more scenic roads that gave me the chance to stop in places like Mirtos (pictures below) rather in a parking area on the side of the road :)
Charming, isn't it?
It is an adorable little resort, popular enough to be interesting but not too popular that would make it crowded.
We used to come here often when we were living in the area. For swimming in the sea but also for eating. We have an Italian friend that claims that the best pizza on the island can be found right here.
And if the Italian says so, who am I to argue?
This time I didn't eat or swim but even a small walk to stretch my legs was exactly what I needed before I continue driving!
The rest of the route was through the mountains. The harsh Cretan scenery that I love so much. Don't get me wrong, I like the sea but I love the mountains :)
I arrived to my grandmother's house just in time for lunch and a well deserved siesta!
After all, it is Sunday :)
I took those pictures with a Redmi Note 12s mobile phone and I haven't edited them at all. It's not my usual style but I hope you'll forgive a tired traveler :)
All the pictures and the words are mine.
