It was early December when I visited Kaimaktsalan, one of the most well known ski centers in Greece. I knew that the piste wasn't open yet, but there was snow and the view from the 2.500 meters (8.200 feet) was too much of a temptation. The road at the last 15 km was a bit tricky but I didn't regret it at all. When I made it to the top, I felt like I was flying above the clouds!
What I did regret (immediately) was stepping out of the car to take some pictures. I was dressed with casual cloths, nothing remotely similar to ski suit and it was frickin' freezing out there! So I am not embarrassed to say that most of the pictures are taken from the car's window while the heater was working to the maximum! Actually it was quite fun since no one was there and I had all the place for myself to drive back and forth, make circles, stop every few seconds and just behave like I am attached to the car :)
If you scroll down the pictures you'll see a train wagon. Don't ask me how it got there, I have no idea!
In the last picture you can vaguely see the village of Agios Athanasios, the closest settlement where you can find accommodation, food etc but that would be another post!
All the pictures and the words are mine.
