I often go out to take some photos with a very vague or even with no plan at all. I just wander around and let the light guide me. If I have nothing in particular on my mind, I take a zoom lens or even my whole camera bag and I choose a lens on the way. Or sometimes I pick a lens in advance and let it guide me through the shooting! This time I felt that I had neglected my 50mm so I attached it on my canon and went for a shooting!
I like the 50mm. It reminds me of my first days in the college of photography when this was the only lens that we were allowed to use, as part of the educational process. Anyway zoom lenses were not that popular back then and 50mm has a unique immediacy. Not wide, not tele, the closest focal length to the human eye, it lets you deal with the composition and the lighting of your frames.
As you can see though, I used it in a rather unconventional way. With full open aperture at 1.8 and approaching my subjects to the minimum distance that I could focus, I gave the feeling of a macro lens, which of course it isn't! But the flowers on the streets were calling me and that was the only lens that I had with me :)
I tried to focus on different things too but it was the evening of the flowers! They kept popping in front of me and I kept on shooting them, till the last light of the day :)
All the pictures and the words are mine.
