I'm an outdoors guy and love all things nature; it's where I feel most comfortable. Flowers are only one element of nature but for so many, myself included, they mean a lot. I don't go wandering about thinking about flowers all the time, but I appreciate them, their scents and colours, their role in the grand scheme of nature and they're nice to look at too right?
On the weekend, I plucked a few from my garden to take some shots and was pretty happy with the results. I used a water spray bottle to get the drops of water figuring it may add some interest and broke out my trusty Olympus camera and just started snapping. As usual, I'll name the images and add a few words. Warning: some of the names may be dumb, they come from the mind of a knucklehead after all.
Lavender tentacles
Unfortunately my lavender blooms are on the decline due to the time of year but I managed to capture a couple of decent shots.
Bug eyes
The two drops of water on the end of this, soon to unfold, flower remind me of bugs eyes. I imagine it to be an inquisitive insect looking intently at something.
Changeling
The mandevilla, in my opinion, looks just as good as a closed flower as it does open; the journey it takes from bud to full bloom is interesting to watch, the change from one to the other miraculous, just like most things in nature.
Tentacle egg
I know, it's not an egg at all, it's a new lavender bud forming at the end of a sprig of the lavender bush tentacles. I told you the names might be dumb.
Sweet nectar
It's only water, but the drops look like they're coming out of the open flower reminding me of a sweet nectar dripping off petals.
Lonely boob
This water drop reminds me of a boob. Enough said.
Life and death
As I said earlier, my lavender flowers are moving swiftly towards their demise so I didn't have beautiful flowers to photograph. Still, life is beautiful even though it fades and the cycle of birth and death isn't something to be shunned, just celebrated.
Reaching the summit
The water drops look like they're climbing to the summit of the leaf, you can see them on the ridgeline climbing in a row. I kind of like that pink of the flower in the background seen through the tiny droplets too.
The overlord and his minions
This one resembles a lord surrounded by his subjects, some closer to the seat of power and of greater importance and others farther away. (Note: My alternate name for this one was, lots of little boobs)
The invite - wet and ready
This flower has opened itself to...just make it up for yourself based on my title for this picture ok?
And so we come to the end. I'm going to do something a little different this time. If you want to have a try at naming one of my images, say which one, give it a name and explain it in a comment below. I may drop some larger votes on some of them if any one actually does it.
Design and create your ideal life, don't live it by default; tomorrow isn't promised so be humble and kind - galenkp
