Besides the magnificent landscapes in Iceland, you can also spot many abandoned properties. In fact, there are so many abandoned buildings that no one really knows the exact number but it's in thousands.
To see them then you usually need to go a little off the beaten path but some can be seen near the roads as well. I had planned to see a couple of these ruined buildings but in the end had time to see only one.
This is located in the Westfjords and is pretty much next to the road, near water. Name is Arngerdareyri Kastallin, not sure where this comes from.
As we found out, this house is not entirely abandoned anymore. Someone has started to renovate it recently, as you can see et has modern windows installed there. I have heard that people convert some of these building ruins to guesthouses, maybe the same is done with this one.
Obviously, this house is located in an absolutely beautiful location.
There is also a dock that looks to be partially collapsed.
The weather was unfamiliarly quiet on that day, it is very rare to see a day when you can't feel the wind almost at all in Iceland.
Since this area is also extremely remote, without any nearby towns and almost nonexistent traffic you can hear the almost total silence when there is no wind.
The water was calm and reflective.
This is only one abandoned example. As I said, Iceland has thousand of ghost buildings and farms in the countryside that have been left to collapse. Whenever I go back to Iceland for the third time, I make sure to include more of these places in my schedule.
Of course, you can see the exact location pinned to the world map.
