Almost no one will skip the visit to Reynisfjara beach when traveling in Southern Iceland. It is famous for its black sand beaches and nearby cliffs with hexagon formations. It was my second time visiting Reynisfjara.
This time however there were huge waves. The wind was not too strong but the waves were crazy, some were at least 3 meters high, probably even higher.
Of course, this beach is also dangerous because of its sneaker waves. Even when the wave doesn't look like it's coming far, it often does.
I saw at least 10 tourists get wet and one even fell fully in the water. Unfortunately, some have also died there in the past, sneaker wave picks you up and carries you to the sea.
On this beach, it is recommended to never turn your back to the ocean.
Long exposure shot.
This shot is awesome, I love it!
The cliff, it's huge.
When there was a short break of the wave, I ran towards the ocean to get a glimpse of what was behind the cliff. This time there was all water and impossible to go. The first time I was able to explore this area as well.
The view towards Dyrholaey
Reynisfjara Beach is definitely a special one. Whenever in Iceland, I always want to go back and enjoy this place.
My girlfriend also says that this is one of her top favorite places.
