In this post, I want to bring out a couple of locations on Madeira island's west coast. I had planned to visit three viewpoints on the coastline but ended up visiting only 2 of them. Madeira's coast is extremely dramatic with high sea cliffs and the photos in this post will showcase it perfectly.
The first viewpoint I went to, is called Farol da Ponta do Pargo. This is the westernmost point of the island. This is a great location that has a view of the western coastline and also some parts of the southern coastline.
There is also a lighthouse that is built in 1922. The viewpoint and the lighthouse are 322 meters of altitude from sea level.
A small lighthouse garden.
View to the bits of the southern coastline.
The second viewpoint we visited is just 3 kilometers away from the first one and is called Miradouro de Boa Morte. Miradouo means the viewpoint. There you can also find a De nossa Senhora chapel that is built in 1661.
To get to the viewpoint, it takes about 500 meters of walking down the hill to the coast. You can see the path in the photo above that starts from the chapel.
Got to be quite careful on the edge of the cliffs. One wrong move and you will fall to your doom. Nothing stops you to fall 300 meters straight down.
I wanted to add this additional content here of the color of the trees. This is taken on some road near the western coast. I don't think I have ever seen this kind of color in a forest. Im not sure if it's a fall color or what, not sure Madeira even gets fall colors. Maybe these trees are colored like this by default. Whatever the case, it's quite unique and I had to stop the car and take the shot.
