I don't usually have many great photos of the winter. The reason is that 98% of our winter weather is dull and overcast. Even if there is nice snow on the ground, the pictures are still boring due to the weather. This is not the case this time, we got to see one of the most perfect scenarios there is to see in wintertime.
Back in this January, we decided to go for a drive and visit one specific cool place that I had wanted to see for quite a while. Since the weather was sunny and nice, it was a great time to go. Unfortunately, when we arrived at the location, the weather had totally changed to overcast. The reason was that the temperature was very cold and the sea nearby was steaming due to the freezing air. The gentle wind pushed it to the mainland.
Since this only affected the coastal area, we decided to drive somewhere else, meaning more inland to get in the sun again. Finally, we did get out of the thick fog and the sun came out. Not only was the sun out but due to the cold weather the low fog was everywhere and it was amazing. I decided to stop on a random field and took a walk on the field. All the photos you have seen so far, are from this walk.
The frozen trees.
Definitely, the most stunning aspect was the fog. The golden hour sun cast a warm light all over the cold landscape and the fog cast beautiful shadows everywhere.
We just walked along a random path that led us over the field. If I remember correctly, the temperature was around -18C degrees.
When the sun was almost gone and we were in a forested area. We got a last glimpse of the sunlight that cast those awesome shadows. The shot is epic and definitely has a place in my end-of-the-year favorite pictures showcase.
I hope, when the next winter arrives, we get more amazing weather like that. Its a shame that it was a single event like that in the last winter season.
