It was basically our last full day on Madeira Island so we decided to explore the capital city of Funchal a bit more. There were a couple of places I wanted to check out. One of the places is the Farmer's Market. Due to Madeira's rich soil and tropical climate, they produce so many different things. The farmer's market was built in 1940 and was meant to be one of the main points of trade on the island. Since then it has been a busy part of everyday life. Its also quite a tourist trap.
It might have been one of the most colorful places I saw on Madeira, look at the photos below.
The variety of vegetables and different food products you can buy is crazy. Its not all eatable things. there are also flowers and other stuff like clothes and bags.
The inside yard.
Nowadays tho they think more about the tourists and price the stuff in there more expensively. That prices out locals because you can get all the foods cheaper from other places. I actually don't remember if I bought anything from there.
Another cool place I wanted to visit was an art street. A narrow street with doors all covered with art. It's located quite close to the Farmer's market. The best time to visit this street is actually earlier in the morning when places are all still closed and the doors are closed. That way you can see everything. We went there in the afternoon time so many doors were open but here is what I was able to see.
A duck shop, wtf? 😅
Those were cool places, crowded with tourists and people overall but still worth having a look at if you visit Madeira. Would you buy a random duck for yourself ? 😅
