Hlíðarendakirkja is a church in southern Iceland near the volcano Eyjafjallajökull. Kirkja in Icelandic means church and is actually pretty similar to how we say church in Estonia, kirik.
Hlíðarendakirkja was built in 1898 and is dedicated to some local guy named St Thorlaki who was born there.
The reason we visited this church was because we decided to explore a road that brings us to the other side of the volcano Eyjafjallajökull and this church happened to be next to the road. Actually situated in quite a scenic location ( like many Icelandic churches), on a hillside overlooking to a flat landscape and the volcano.
It would be cool if we were able to take a look inside but as always the doors are locked and no exploring the interior. Here are a couple of different angles. The white-capped mountain at the back is the famous Eyjafjalla which erupted in 2010. I have some more posts coming where the volcano is seen a bit better.
