I have driven past the Krýsuvíkurkirkja countless times but never gone close. When I traveled to Iceland the most recent time I decided that I will not leave it unwatched again. I'm glad I didn't because I wouldn't have taken pictures there otherwise. The curch is nice and the surrounding nature is extremely scenic. Since it was my second and final day in Iceland at the time, I was really fortunate to get the day with clear skies and sunshine.
Krýsuvíkurkirkja was built in 1857 and at some point, it was also used as a residence. It was repaired in 1964 and handed over to the Icelandic national museum. The last person that was buried there next to the church was in 1971.
The door was locked and I was unable to go inside. I tried to see what I can through the window.
A couple of additional photos that I took of the surroundings.
I had taken some food with me and had a small picnic there. I loved to sit and enjoy the calmness of this place.
