Bringing you the first post of our USA travels that we just came back from. We arrived in Denver at Midnight and went straight to our Airbnb. The next morning first thing we rented a car and left Denver. We had time to see the city later in the week but at this moment I wanted to get out of the city and to the mountains as fast as I could.
The first destination was a place I had always wanted to see, the Red Rocks Amphitheatre. It is located about 20 minutes to the west of Denver. Right on the border of the mountains of Colorado.
The road there
Red Rocks Amphitheater is a concert venue that is located in a scenic place and the venue itself is surrounded by red cliffs from all sides. That also makes acoustics sound really good. Many locals in Denver and surrounding areas want to visit at least one event there during the year I have heard.
First, we had to walk to the venue from the parking lot.
Here you can see the concert venue. It is open and free for the public to roam around unless there is a concert or some event going on at the time.
I definitely felt the altitude when climbing on the stairs. Colorado is a high-elevation state. Denver already is located 1 mile (1600m) above sea level. The site of Red Rocks is about 6700ft above sea level meaning a little more than 2000m. We come from Sea level and were not used to the heights just yet. Walking the stairs got our breath away pretty quickly. There is much less air pressure at 2000m than at sea level. We actually felt some altitude sickness too during our travels but not in this location. Will talk more about it when the right post comes.
A day after we arrived back in Estonia and a bit more than a week later we visited Red Rocks I saw some news that a golf ball-sized hail storm hit this place during a concert. 8 people were sent to hospital and more than 20 got injured. I saw some videos it was crazy and the panic was real when hail like this started to hit people.
We didn't see any concerts there but they were just prepping for some concert that happened in the evening so we got to hear some of the sounds this venue can offer.
The rocks were so cool!
We did go for a short hike in the area too but I will leave it to another post. Overall it was a really cool area and venue to see and explore.
