Saying a city center is funny in Porto Santo lol. First of all, there is no city. The island is only 10 kilometers long and a couple of kilometers wide with one town. The town itself is just a small area on the island where some locals live. The town is actually called Vila Baleira. You can find several restaurants and gift shops for tourists. That's pretty much what there is to it really. Here I have some photos of the settlement area.
Here you can see the town from above. From the top of the mountain, the mountain you can see in the photo above. We took a hike there, this will be a separate post soon.
One of the interesting things to see in the town is the house of Christopher Columbus, he actually lived there for some time when he arrived on the Porto Santo island. Nowadays there is a museum inside. Be warned tho, we bought a ticket to go inside but everything is written in Portuguese so you will understand nothing 😅. There is a translation of the exhibition somewhere on the internet but we didn't really want to trouble ourselves with it. So basically we just rushed through the house, saw some objects and pictures and that's it 😀.
