Balance...
What exactly is balance?
There’s a quiet assumption that balance looks like stillness.
Calm water.
Clear skies.
Everything in its place.
But, over time, the ocean has been showing us something different.
Balance doesn’t necessarily mean the absence of movement...it means learning to stand within it.
Standing on the Beach in Amanzimtoti.
On this stretch of coastline, nothing is truly still.
The waves keep coming.
The wind shifts without warning.
Even the rocks, worn and shaped over time, carry the memory of constant change.
And yet...everything holds.
On a cloudy morning, as the sun was rising, there was a moment where I noticed a lone figure standing on the rocks, fishing. Surrounded by motion, but grounded on something solid.
He was not resisting the ocean, but not being taken by it either.
With all the movement around him, waves slamming onto the rocks, he was just standing there...grounded by the solid rocks he was standing on.
A Reminder...Balance isn't Fixed.
Further along, the sea opened up.
The rhythm softened. The light broke gently through the clouds.
It felt like a pause...not because the ocean stopped moving, but because the intensity shifted.
A reminder that balance isn’t fixed..it flows.
A New Kind of Balance.
And then, the driftwood.
Once rooted somewhere else, it has been ripped out, carried away and now found it's place among these rocks.
Not where it began...but not lost either.
It had found a new kind of balance — shaped by forces it didn’t control.
That’s when it clicked.
Balance isn’t about controlling the environment.
It’s about finding your place within it.
Holding steady when things move. Adapting when things change. Letting both strength and softness exist at the same time.
The ocean never chooses between calm and chaos.
It carries both.
Maybe there’s a new lesson to be learned here.
And with that, we come to the end today's post.
