Last weekend was a public holiday here in New Zealand as the country celebrated Matariki, a celebration that marks Maori's New Year. I experienced it last year in Christchurch as my friend and I took a walk around town, and she explained to me what Matariki means.
This year, with my friend now moved to Wellington due to work, it was a great opportunity to visit Wellington for the first time and celebrate Matariki with her.
Before dinner, we went for a walk at the Wellington waterfront. The lights decorations were impressively beautiful.
After dinner, we were back at the waterfront and were met with this brilliant display on water. The concept is so brilliant using the water body a screen for display.
There were some fire š„ lights spot along the waterfront to warm up as it was a cold night š ⨠and food stalls. It was a beautiful, lovely night and an overall weekend for me.
