During this three months lockdown, I have to entertained myself by taking bus ride around the old part of Bangkok as there are still many old buildings and listed buildings which are now preserved by law. The ‘hot’ bus is the cheapest and fastest way to travel with the bonus of lots of excitement. These drivers of hot buses seem to be in a hurry to net passengers at the next bus stop. The first bus arriving at the bus stop would get all the waiting passengers. Life has become even harder with less people daring to get out of their houses. But I do prefer to travel during this quiet time.
The usual place to wait for the bus is in New Road as there is always lots to see around the area, plus some local street foods, Thai sweets and grocery shops. The bus would take a short cut through Chinatown towards the old Burapa Palace area which has been transformed into big shopping arcade years ago. As soon as the bus passed the Burapa shopping center, the scenery would turn into something quite pleasant. Several rows of renovated old houses could be seen interspersed with old canals and bridges. But the bus went too fast for me to take some decent photos. I had to try not to fall off my seat while taking photos as the bus behaved like crazy galloping horse.
The warm sunshine and fresh breezes did calm and relax my mind. The surroundings took me back to the last, leaving all my worries behind in the third dimension. I started wondering about life in Siam three hundred years ago. How those people cope with the worries of being invaded and colonised by European powers. There must have been gossips and secret meetings among the expats, merchants and foreign diplomatic communities in Siam. The majority of ordinary Thai people could only hope that the King and his high ranking ministers could protect the sovereignty of the country.
The pressure and intensity of danger and uncertainty could probably match the impact of the COVID pandemic and rising number of vaxxed people everyday. The modern ‘colonisation’ by pandemic and vaxx which is known as the Great Reset seemed to have surpassed modern politicians’ acumen. Older generations of Thais were much wiser and highly talented in critical thinking with a strong sense of patriotism.
I could imagine messengers on horseback hurrying to deliver secret letters from officials stationed along the border with arrival of French troops in Laos and the news on how the English troops managed to seize control of Burma. These alarming tidings would spread all kinds of gossips and overwhelming fear among all Thai people who still lived in houses with thatched roofs. That hunting game was never on a leveled playing field; it’s the game of big fish gobbling up small fish. Hence, the fear of coronavirus is in the verge of collapsing society and economy and depopulation of many countries in the near future.
Life is so flimsy and fragile but must people take life for granted and think that good things will last a long time. These old and beautiful buildings represented the successful effort, hard work and stamina of those heroic and sacrificing people who managed to keep Siam a sovereign nation. The modernisation of Siam was the first and biggest project of social re-engineering of our society. Most Thai people are very loyal to the Monarchy as they knew the sacrifice and pain the Monarchy had gone through in order to keep the country safe from colonisation.
However the younger generations would like to see a change over to the American system of governance. So, there is an engineered division among Thai people which could lead to violent conflicts and the entrenchment of authoritarian regime in the future. The game plan seemed towards violent conflict which would enable dictators to take over the country. But these dictators had been previously recruited and chosen by foreign puppet masters. ‘Plus ca change, plus c’est la meme chose.’
My bus trip was very nostalgic; it gave me time for pause and reflection which helped me to understand the continuing process of modern colonisation. I have to prepare myself for more drastic changes in our society which has already started to pop up in clusters. I just hope and pray that there would be some miracles to placate the seriousness of the social, political and financial situations.
In the past, there would be evening chanting in all temples in the country to appease all negative energies or intentions and to spread healing throughout the realm. Perhaps more Thai people should be praying at the same time every evening to create a powerful sphere of healing vibes for the whole country.
ช่วงล็อกดาวน์นี้เราออกไปผ่อนคลายสมอง ด้วยการนั่งรถเมล์เที่ยวเล่นไปรอบเมืองเก่า คือรอบๆเกาะรัตนโกสินทร์นั่นเอง ความจริงเราก็อยากไปเดินเที่ยวถ่ายรูปด้วย แต่อากาศและเวลายังไม่เอื้ออำนวยเท่าไร วัดหลายวัดในบริเวณนั้นก็ปิดกันหมดด้วย เราก็เลยนั่งรถเมล์และถ่ายรูปจากที่นั่งแทน เราก็ได้รูปมุมสูงมา เป็นการบันทึกภาพความทรงจำของเรา เอาไว้ดูในอนาคตว่า บ้านเมืองวันวานนั้นจะเปลี่ยนไปเพียงใด รถเมล์ร้อนวิ่งผ่านถนนเยาวราชตรงสู่วังบูรพา สมัยก่อนที่นั่นเคยเป็นที่ของวังมาก่อน ต่อมาถูกเปลี่ยนเป็นศูนย์การค้าที่หรูและมีชื่อเสียงในสมัยคุณแม่ เราจำได้เพราะคุณแม่ชอบพาไปเดินเที่ยวตอนเราเป็นเด็ก ปัจจุบันที่นี่ไม่ทันสมัยเหมือนพวกห้างใหญ่ตามริมแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยา
พอรถเมล์ผ่านย่านวังบูรพา เราก็เริ่มเจ้าสู่โซนของกรุงเก่า และเข้าสู่เกาะรัตนโกสินทร์ ตึกเก่าแก่สมัยรัชกาลที่5 ที่มีการซ่อมแซมและทาสีใหม่ เรียงรายตามถนน แลดูสวยงามม่ก ภาพที่เห็นทำให้เราผ่อนคลายจาก ความกังวลของปัญหาในปัจจุบัน เรากลับไปในอดีตและระลึกถึงความสามารถของคนไทยรุ่นเก่า. ที่มีความสามารถเป็นเลิศในการรักษาอธิปไตยของสยามเอาไว้ให้คนรุ่นหลัง เราทึ่งในการมองการไกลและการตัดสินใจ ในการเปลี่ยนแปลงบ้านเมืองอย่างกระทันหัน เพื่อให้มีความซิวิไลเท่าทันพวกฝรั่ง จะได้ไม่ตกเป็นเบี้ยในการล่าอาณานิคมนั่นเอง ความกลัวและความกดดันคงมีมาก พอจะเทียบกับความกลัวของคนในปัจจุบันที่ต้องสะพรึงกลัวโควิท จนทำให้สังคม เศรษฐกิจและชีวิตของคนจวนต้องพังพินาศในเร็วๆนี้
เราก็หวังว่านักการเมือง ผู้นำและคนที่อยู่ในตำแหน่งงานที่ต้องตัดสินใจ คงมีความสามารถและความคิดที่ลุ่มลึก เหมือนคนไทยในอดีต ที่เขาพาประเทศผ่านพ้นภัยคุกคามมาได้ แต่เราค่อนข้างจะผิดหวังกับผู้มีอำนาจ และคนที่มีความรู้ความเป็นมืออาชีพทั้งหลาย. ดูแล้วพวกเขากำลังพาคนไปสู่ความตาย และประเทศไปสู่ความหายนะ เพราะพวกเขาถูกครอบงำทางความคิดโดยฝรั่งไปเรียบร้อยแล้ว คนไทยได้ตกเป็นอาณานิคมทางปัญญาหรือทางความคิดไปแล้ว เราคงต้องทำใจให้ได้ เพื่อเตรียมรับกับปัญหาและความวุ่นวายที่จะมาถึงบ้านเมืองในอนาคตอันใกล้นี้.
