What’s up, guys! It’s Wednesday night and I’m at . I’m trying to get this post on the blockchain before midnight. I’m still sort of on Vegas time, so my nights are slipping later and later. This entire day has been somewhat ADHD. I’ve had a hard time focusing, or sitting for long periods of time. The
crowd has been getting on my nerves, so I’ve been longing for a comfortable place to reside, feeling more restless than anything. So what, though? I’m embracing that. I ordered a new 60mm ƒ2.8 lens from 7Artisans and it came this afternoon.
I decided not to fight the constant distraction between errands and running around. It was cold and drizzling, so I stepped out in to the backyard to see what this thing can do. My decision to buy it was inspired by , who’s been shooting incredible macro photography for years. He came over the other day and we photographed my tailless whip scorpion. I left for Viva Las Vegas the next day, and as that Viva money started rolling in, I got the idea to just pull the trigger on my own macro lens. I mean, who wouldn’t get bored with all the pinups?!
I decided on this lens because its one of the only macros that fits the Nikon Z mount. I’m still trying to make a decision on if I prefer the Z6II mirrorless over my D750. The jury is still out. I do like the lower profile, lighter weight camera body. This particular lens doesn’t have any autofocus settings, so I’m back to manual focus, which isn’t unusual for macros. I just walked around the house and took a few shots of my compost heap. When I went inside, my Suriname Redtail boa was just about finished eating.
It does feel really good to do something, just for fun. After 20+ shoots during Viva Las Vegas, I don’t have a client expecting these images and there was no production or preparation in making them. Spontaneously walking around the garden and home. has been doing some great pieces of art just for fun lately and I think this was an effort to capture that same enjoyment. I’ll have a few more of these macro shots soon, especially if I get together with
tomorrow. Good night!
