As we leave our anchorage, we are eager to see our first glacier up close.
To be honest l do not even think l have to say anything the photos say it all....what an amazing view.
Looks like a wildfire
This reflection is just so stunning
As some sea Otto's say goodbye, we make our way slowly towards Chenaga glacier.
As we get closer to the glacier we notice how the water changes color and also the temperature dropping from 15 to 7 degrees Celsius.
We start to see the broken off ice floating downstream. Did you know that about 12.5% of the ice only floats above the water.
Words can not describe how beautiful this is. You can also hear how the ice cracks even from such a far distance.
We sadly could not get any closer since there was too much ice, but there are still more to come.
After listening and looking at the glacier we make our way back to anther beautiful bay. Since anchoring in front of the glacier is not possible because it is about 150 meters deep.
You do not see but there is a rope connecting the back of our boat to a thick tree truck, usually called a stern line. Since we do not have a lot of swing room, this is what boats do to reduce the swing area.
After connecting the rope we decided to take a small trip with our dingy to shore.
Got very lucky to see this young bear catching some salmon.
A lot of salmon.
I can not find words that describe these stunning views....
well that's Alaska for you, hahaaha.
