Exploring the New Park
There are a few favourite parks where I take my dog for daily walks. These regular parks are lovely, but sometimes my dog and I need a fresh, new experience. Discovering somewhere new is good for our brains and mental health, as everyone knows. My dog looks so happy when he gets to explore new smells and bump into new buddies.
My husband suggested visiting a park we had never been to before. It isn’t far from our place, but interestingly, we had never had a chance to explore it. There’s a golf course across from the park, and we often watch golfers from our car, which is probably why we never thought to check the other side until now.
The entrance doesn’t look busy at all, so the park feels somewhat hidden in the forest. There was still snow on the ground, and the air was a bit chilly that day. Perhaps that’s why there weren’t many people around on a weekday. As soon as we arrived, my dog looked so excited and ran straight toward the big field.
There were a few dogs enjoying the wide open field with their owners. Our dog noticed them right away, but the dogs didn’t disturb each other. They all kept a very healthy distance.
My dog loves finding hiking paths. He often looks back at us, like in this photo, though he prefers walking ahead. He looked like he was skipping as he climbed up the hill.
The park has a tennis court, basketball court, several baseball fields, a few soccer fields, hiking trails, frisbee golf goals, a water park, and more. It’s a much larger park than we expected.
There is also a water fountain where you can refill your bottle anytime. It’s great for runners, walkers, and cyclists.
Here is a pair of park benches resting for winter. They looked as if they were waiting for hot summer days. The bright yellow colour makes them look ready already.
This is the frisbee golf goal. We bumped into two men who were playing. They had many different sizes of frisbees in their backpacks and looked like they were having a great time.
Here is one of the baseball fields. There are large lights for night games. I think this town has many sports families. I can imagine this place being full of people in spring, summer, and autumn. Even in winter, I can easily imagine kids and families gathering here on weekends.
Oh, there’s a “Harvest Moon Trail” sign. This trail is long and famous, stretching far in both directions. There used to be railway tracks here long ago, but now only the trail remains.
Whenever I step onto this trail, I feel a sense of ancient time. My dog looked like he was time-travelling into the past.
People enjoy walking and cycling on this trail. I like walking on it with my dog sometimes, though not usually in this area.
Here is the map of the park. It’s actually even bigger than this map shows. I think attaching a map of the town is a great idea. People might want to explore the town during their breaks. I wish the railway still existed…
I also love the idea of placing a playground for small children beside the baseball field. Parents can watch their older kids’ games while playing with younger children. I like noticing small, clever ideas like this in parks.
Hopefully, we can come back to this park again in the spring! My dog was waiting in front of the wrong car in the parking lot. When he realized it wasn’t our car, he looked a little embarrassed.

新しい公演を探索する
普段、犬との散歩でよく行くお気に入りの公園が近所にいくつかあります。これらの公園はとてもお気に入りの場所ですが、私も犬も、ときどき新鮮な体験がしたいと思います。新しい場所を発見することは、脳にもメンタルヘルスにも良いことですよね。犬も、新しい匂いを探したり、新しい友だちに出会ったりすると、とても嬉しそうです。
主人が、今まで行ったことのない公園に行ってみようと提案してくれました。その公園は家からそこまで遠くはないのですが、なぜか一度も訪れる機会がありませんでした。公園の反対側にはゴルフ場があり、車からゴルフをする人たちを見ることがよくあったので、そちら側ばかりに目が行って、反対側を見ることがなかったのだと思います。
入口はあまり目立たず、忙しい雰囲気もないので、まるで森に隠れているような公園です。地面にはまだ雪が残っていて、その日は少し寒い日でした。平日だったこともあり、人はあまりいませんでした。到着すると、犬は大きなフィールドめがけて嬉しそうに走っていきました。
大きなフィールドには、すでに飼い主さんと一緒に遊んでいる犬が何頭かいました。犬同士はすぐに気付きましたが、お互いに干渉することもなく、ちょうど良い距離を保っていました。
私の犬はハイキングコースを見つけるのが大好きです。写真のようにときどき振り返って確認してくれますが、私たちより先にどんどん歩いて行くのが好きです。その日は、スキップするように小高い丘を登っていました。
この公園には、テニスコート、バスケットコート、野球場がいくつか、サッカー場、ハイキングコース、フリスビーのゴール、水遊び場などがあり、想像していたよりずっと広い公園でした。
水筒をいつでも補充できる水飲み場もあり、ランニング、散歩、自転車などにもとても便利です。
冬の間は休んでいるピクニック用のベンチの溜まり場がありました。暑い夏の日を待っているようで、黄色いベンチはすでに準備完了という雰囲気でした。
これがフリスビーのゴールです。２人の男性がゲームをしているのに出会いました。バックパックには何種類もの大きさの違うフリスビーが入っていて、とても楽しそうでした。
こちらは野球場のひとつです。夜の試合用に大きな照明が設置されていて、この町にはスポーツをする家族が多いのだろうと感じました。春、夏、秋はきっとたくさんの人が利用するのでしょう。冬でも、週末は子どもたちや家族連れで賑わっていそうです。
Harvest Moon Trailというサインもありました。このハイキングトレールはとても有名で、左右どちらにも長く続いています。昔は鉄道が通っていましたが、残念ながら今はトレイールだけが残っています。
このトレールに足を踏み入れると、昔の時代を感じます。私の犬も、まるで古い時代にタイムトリップしたように見えてきます。
人々は散歩やサイクリングを楽しんでいます。私も時々犬と一緒に歩くのが好きですが、ここのエリアではないところで歩きます。
この地図は公園の全体像です。実際はこの地図で見るよりもずっと広く感じます。町の地図が付いているのはとても良いアイデアだと思います。散歩の途中で町を探検したくなる人もいるでしょう。鉄道が残っていたら、もっと良かったのになぁ…
小さな子どもの遊び場が野球場のすぐ隣に設置されているのは良いアイデアですね。親は上の子の試合を見ながら、小さい子とは遊び場で楽しめます。公園のこうしたささやかな工夫のアイディアを見つけるのが好きです。
また春にこの公園に来られるといいなと思います。帰りに、犬が家のではない車の前で待っていました。間違いに気づいた瞬間、少し恥ずかしそうにしている姿が可愛かったです。とても穏やかで日差しの気持ちいい一日でした。
