Dolomiti di Brenta
In June 2024 I set out to visit one of the most beautiful valleys in the Brenta Dolomites – Val d’Ambiez. It had been on my list for a long time, and this year I finally made it there. From the very first steps, I knew it was worth the wait.
A sunny, warm morning
The day started off promisingly. It was warm, and the sun quickly brought out all the most vivid colours of the valley. The pale limestone towers of the Brenta looked magnificent, and the surrounding meadows were filled with the scent of early summer. The ascent felt light and pleasant – exactly the kind of day you want to spend in the mountains.
In the heart of Val d’Ambiez
The higher I climbed, the more spectacular the scenery became. Narrow rocky corridors, towering peaks, and a deep mountain silence broken only by the sound of streams. Val d’Ambiez truly has something special – the rawness of the Dolomites combined with their incredible space and light.
Weather turns for the worse
But as often happens in the mountains, the weather changed faster than expected. In the afternoon the sky began to cloud over, and the warm sun gave way to heavy grey clouds. First came a chilly breeze, then the first drops of rain.
That was a clear sign it was time to head back down before things got worse.
The descent
The descent took place in much less friendly conditions, but that early-morning enchantment with Val d’Ambiez stayed with me. Even though I had to return sooner than planned, the trip was still incredible – full of contrasts, from summer sunshine to stormy skies.
