I probably agree with all the above reasons to a greater or lesser extent.

I love the sea and have vacationed several times in Bulgaria, in the charming town of Pomorie. From there we went on a tour of ancient Nessebar.
I have been there three times and I well remember all the ancient streets, temples, cafes. The historical part of the town is located on a small peninsula connected to the mainland by a narrow isthmus.
Surprisingly, there are as many as 40 churches here. With age, they were more or less destroyed, but still create a special color of Nessebar.
Я дуже люблю море і кілька разів відпочивала у Болгарії, в чарівному містечку Поморіє. Звідти ми їздили на екскурсію в старовинний Несебр.
Я була там тричі і добре пам'ятаю усі старовинні вулички, храми, кафешки... Історична частина містечка знаходиться на невеликому півострові, що з'єднаний з материком вузьким перешийком. Дивовижно, але тут помістилось аж 40 церков. З віком вони в більшій чи меншій мірі були зруйновані, проте і тепер творять особливий колорит Несебра.
The city was founded in the 2nd millennium BC! Initially, Thracians and Greeks lived here. Later, the city was ruled by the Romans and then it was called Mesembria.
After the collapse of the Roman Empire, in the 4th century the city was ceded to Byzantium, and later the Byzantines and Bulgarians who came from Asia, fought for this territory. Over time, the young Ottoman state entered the world political arena. And since 1453 Bulgaria, in particular Nessebar, has been under Turkish rule for almost 4 centuries.
Only in the 19th century did Bulgaria gain independence.
Now this country is one of the favorite vacation spots of Ukrainians, due to the close distance and reasonable prices.
Місто було засноване ще у 2 тисячолітті до нашої ери! Спочатку тут жили фракійці і греки. Згодом у місті панували римляни і тоді воно звалось Месембрія. Після розпаду Римської імперії, у 4-му столітті місто відійшло до Візантії, а згодом за нього часто змагались візантійці і булгари, які прийшли з Азії. З часом на світову політичну арену вийшла молода Османська держава. І ось з 1453 року Болгарія, зокрема й Несебр майже на 4 століття потрапили під панування турків. Лише у 19 століття Болгарія здобула незалежність.
Зараз саме ця країна є одним з улюблених місць відпочинку українців, через близьку відстань і помірні ціни.
Already in front of the fortress walls of the city you realize that in front of you is a gray antiquity. Tourists are greeted by an old blackened windmill.
The first church we saw here I liked the most. Because it is well preserved. And the sea of colorful flowers only enhance the festive mood.
The main street of the town is quite noisy. There are many shops and cafes, near which are waiters or owners and encourage tourists to come to eat. A continuous bazaar! (And it seemed to me that every year it gets worse!)
What to do if you are an introvert? Look for quieter streets:) They are here too. And that's great.
Вже перед фортечними стінами міста розумієш, що перед тобою сива давнина. Туристів зустрічає старий почорнілий з часом вітряк.
Найперша церква, яку ми тут побачили, найбільше мені сподобалась. Бо добре збереглась. А море кольорових квітів лише підсилюють святковий настрій.
Головна вулиця містечка досить галасна. Тут безліч магазинів та кафе, біля яких стоять офіціанти чи й власники і закликають туристів зайти поїсти. Суцільний базар! (Причому мені здалося, що з кожним роком це посилюється!) Що робити бідному інтроверту? Шукати більш тихі вулички:) Вони тут теж є. І це прекрасно.
We pass several churches. One of them has a museum. It's a pity I didn't go inside, maybe another time?
It is quite crowded near the ruins of the old basilica of the 4th century, which is also called the Old Metropolis. People hide from the sun and look for interesting views for photos. I have a feeling here that I am really somewhere on the periphery of the Roman Empire.
At the end of the peninsula there is the only functioning church where Liturgies are held and where you can pray.
We return along the coast and enjoy the views of the sea and other ruins. It's nice that the day is partly cloudy. In June there is no mad heat here.
Проходимо кілька церков. В одній із них працює музей. Жаль, що я не зайшла туди всередину, може іншим разом?
Доволі людно і біля руїн старої базиліки 4 століття, яку ще називають Стара Митрополія. Люди ховаються від сонця і шукають цікаві ракурси. У мене тут відчуття, що я дійсно десь на периферії Римської імперії.
Вкінці півострова є єдина діюча церква, де відбуваються Літургії і де можна помолитися.
Назад ми повертаємося вздовж узбережжя і насолоджуємось видами моря та іншими руїнами. Приємно, що день частково хмарний. У червні тут ще немає шаленої спеки.
Memories of Nessebar warm my heart. There are many other similar towns in the world, also old, with narrow streets and old buildings. I want to visit them!
