The location of the CASTLE/ABBEY on the ESTATE OF KYLEMORE ABBEY you can find on the following screenshot of Google maps with the yellow star ⭐️:

(yes Google maps changed their icons… I think they are less clear now)
More information about this ESTATE you find in the following website:
Wikipedia - Kylemore Abbey
Their own website you find here : Kylemore Abbey!
In the following webpage: Source!
We find information about the building, the self guided tour we go on.
It states;
From Generation to Generation, a wonderful, interactive Visitor Experience opened in 2019 and tells the stories of the many generations of people who have lived, worked, studied and prayed inside Kylemore Abbey’s solid granite walls. The Visitor Experience brings these stories to life in stunning fashion with the use of historical photographs, audio-visual presentations, displays of artefacts from the Kylemore archive, historical costumes, and beautifully restored period rooms.
All information about the other rooms you can read in this webpage. 🤓
Another part / actually a room I want to highlight from this webpage is :
The Flight From Ypres: This room is dominated by a moving audio-visual presentation telling the story of the Kylemore Benedictine Community from their origins in Ypres Belgium to their flight from War-torn Europe and their arrival to Kylemore almost 100 years ago in 1920. The room also features a stunning stained glass window and precious artifacts of the Benedictine Order.
I will show you this stained glass window in this post. It’s stunning 🤩
Let’s start our walk now, you must be excited 😊
Come on, here we go….
As we are walking towards the castle/ abbey we will pass it by first 😎

And walk further… we see the entrance arch on the left we go through later on. Not just yet 😉 you need to be patient 😎

The front entrance what turns out to be the exit while we go on a tour through the ground floor.

Next to the main building we see a more modern area. We don’t visit this part of the abbey. I think those are the main rooms of the abbey where the nuns live.

We are leaving the abbey behind and wander along a path… following it over a little bridge, were we see this little stream.

After we visit the Neo Gothic Church… you could see in Part 3 above in this post… we walk further and reach the MAUSOLEUM.

Next to it we find these giants 🌲🌲🌲

Just awesome… I love ancient trees 🌲

I couldn’t even get it all on one photo. If I would go back further other trees would block the view from this red cedar.

Let’s look at the mausoleum now. Here lies Margaret and Henry as we could read on the sign. Remember my post about the gothic church he build for her… with angels and flowers 🌸

It’s small and hidden away actually…. A detail. 😎

We walk further to the next sight that is interesting… have a read 🤓

The ironing stone : aka GIANT’S WISHING STONE

Don’t be confused by its size. You have to stand against it and throw the stones over it. It is a challenge… a grown person only comes until half of the height. Most people that were throwing stones didn’t manage to get 3 stones over the top.
Let’s walk back now along the paths… until we reach the abbey. There is a little lookout over the lake/ lough 😊

Can’t forget some artistic photos 😎

As we reached the main building of the abbey/ castle… we enter via the arch on the left side.
We see a time line that tells us more about the history.

I notice the sun shining through the cut out letters, creating some nice #reflections #shadows with open areas on the wall behind 🤓

If you read the information above… here is the beautiful stained glass window.

Love it 🥰 it’s stunning! You see the nuns leaving Belgium 🇧🇪 and arriving in Ireland 🇮🇪 at the castle.
An old flag…

As we walk through the rooms we find an old switchboard. Very cool to see.

We are discovering room after room when the family still lived there, before the nuns came.

I have not taken many photographs, as there were a lot of other people around. And I didn’t want to invade on their privacy… 😏
So let me show you parts of the rooms, little details… as you know I like details… like this wooden chair. Look at the woodwork. The carvings… awesome! 😎

The old Victorian toilet…

Antique Furniture and Costumes

The old #piano 🎹

Children’s toys and if you read the text in the painting… the children had lots of fun playing around in the estate and staircases 😉

I see this old camera… and capture what it captured.

The festive dining table…

A picture frame with #butterflies 🦋

We leave the abbey through the main entrance I showed you above.
As the nuns are building a complete new complex on the side of the visitor center. There are some more information signs about the new build put up.
On one we read:

Walking towards the car park… we see these beautiful views 😁 such stunning location. So much to see…

I capture a few more photographs of Kylemore Abbey 📸

As we walk away… yes I know this is a welcome sign… hahaha 🤣 but somehow I only captured it at the end of our visit 🤓 still wanted to include it.

Bye bye beautiful ESTATE 👋🏻 I will visit again… 😁
