Ich bin zwar mit meiner Freundin mit einem kleinen Van in Portugal unterwegs, doch begeistern mich Bahnhöfe als Fotomotiv immer noch. Und wenn ich dann auf einen Bahnhofsgebäude treffe, welches der spanisch-schweizerische Architekt Santiago Calatrava entworfen hat,kenn ich kein Halten mehr. So geschehen mit dem Bahnhof Estação do Oriente in Lissabon.
Although I am travelling with my girlfriend in a small van in Portugal, I am still fascinated by railway stations as photo motifs. And when I come across a station building designed by the Spanish-Swiss architect Santiago Calatrava, I can't stop myself. This is what happened with the Estação do Oriente station in Lisbon.
Aunque estoy viajando con mi novia en una pequeña furgoneta por Portugal, me siguen fascinando las estaciones de tren como motivo fotográfico. Y cuando me encuentro con un edificio de estación diseñado por el arquitecto hispano-suizo Santiago Calatrava, no puedo contenerme. Esto es lo que ocurrió con la estación de Estação do Oriente en Lisboa.
Der Bahnhof wurde anlässlich der Expo 98 errichtet, und fügt sich mit seinem futuristisch anmutenden hochgewölbten Metallgitter perfekt in die moderne Architektur des Stadtteils Parque das Nações ein. Auch wiederspiegelt das Dach Calatravas Stil, angehaucht von natürlichen Strukturen (Blattwerk, Skelette und Flügel). Das Gebäude selbst vereint markante moderne Baumerkmale mit klassischer gotischer Architektur, wobei riesige, geschwungene Bögen aus Beton dem Bau alter gotischer Kathedralen nachempfunden sind.

Der Bahnhof verfügt über fünf Ebenen.Auf der obersten starten Züge (S-Bahn und Intercity) von acht Gleisen und auf der untersten befindet sich eine U-Bahnstation. Dazwischen findet man geräumige Wartehallen, welche während der Expo 98 als Ausstellungsraum dienten, Fahrkarten-Schalter, ein Eingang zum Einkaufszentrum "Vasco da Gama" und ein Busbahnhof, welcher von städtischen und nationalen Bussenverbindungen, sowie internationalen Fernbusse, frequentiert ist. So bildet die Estação do Oriente ein wichtiger und lebendiger Verkehrsknotenpunkt Lissabons und Portugals.
The station has five levels, with trains (S-Bahn and Intercity) departing from eight tracks on the top level and a metro station on the bottom level. In between, there are spacious waiting halls, which served as an exhibition space during Expo 98, ticket offices, an entrance to the "Vasco da Gama" shopping centre and a bus station, which is frequented by city and national bus connections, as well as international long-distance buses. The Estação do Oriente is an important and lively transport hub for Lisbon and Portugal.
La estación tiene cinco niveles, con trenes (S-Bahn e Intercity) que salen de ocho vías en el nivel superior y una estación de metro en el nivel inferior. Entre medias, hay amplias salas de espera, que sirvieron de espacio de exposición durante la Expo 98, taquillas, una entrada al centro comercial "Vasco da Gama" y una estación de autobuses, por la que pasan las conexiones de autobuses urbanos y nacionales, así como los autobuses internacionales de larga distancia. La Estação do Oriente es un importante y animado centro de transporte para Lisboa y Portugal.
