Hello photography enthusiasts, hope you enjoy the hyacinth flower above. My aim for this post is to share the physical setup used during the shot. I will focus on the lighting rather then the camera and lens.
First of all let me introduce you my handmade softbox. The dimension is about 50cm x 50cm. I cut out a carton box in order to form a base for the diffuser. And I placed my speedlight in the middle as you can see in the picture below.
I left some pieces at the back uncut so as to be able to support the structure against to the flash unit.
As a diffuser I used a white cloth which is used as tulle for the windows.
In order to create rim lighting around the flower, I needed to create a black background while allowing surrounding light to reach to the flower. This particular dark background is from the sitting base from a chair at home. I placed it in the middle of my background light.
Later on I placed the flower in the middle of the dark background.
I also used another speedlight in the front to lift off some shadows.
This one below was the result of this whole setup.
After playing with exposure and saturation, I got the following result.
Since I wanted to experiment more, I used red color filter in front of the front and back flashes.
This two pictures above and below shows my filter attachment.
As a result I was able to recolor the flower. Then it occurred to me that it could be an idea to use it as backdrop. It would look like a faint glow.
And I blended two pictures as below. I am happy with the result. And I hope you like it too.
All the best...
