Before Indonesia proclaimed its independence on August 8, 1945, Indonesia was colonized by the Dutch for more than 300 years and colonized by the Japanese for 3,5 years. With the long period of colonialism and the many sacrifices and struggles of the Indonesian people for independence. So as a form of gratitude and remembering the services of the heroes who have died in the battlefield to achieve the Independence that we currently feel, then on certain dates we will commemorate the days of these heroes.
For example, every April 21 every year we will commemorate Kartini day. Kartini is an Indonesian Woman Hero who fought for the emancipation of women in her era so that there is no gender difference to obtain education, work and political rights in Indonesia, then there is another 2 May which is commemorated as Education day in Indonesia, 17 August as the Independence day of the Republic of Indonesia , October 28 as Youth Pledge Day. And what I'm going to post right now is November 10 as Hero's Day.
Hero's Day is celebrated every November 10 every year. The history of the commemoration of Hero's Day began with the tearing of the Red and White Blue Flag above the Yamato Hotel in the city of Surabaya on September 19, 1945, where one of the Indonesian fighters bravely tore the blue color on the flag so that only the red and white color remained and still defended it. independence which was proclaimed on August 17, 1945.
This year our school held a trail, which was to walk around the area near our school to celebrate the struggle of the heroes. And the Napak Tilas Parade the students carried the theme of heroism. Where they are free to choose costumes according to the heroic theme, such as nurse costumes, Kebaya Kartini costumes, farmer costumes, Batik costumes, traditional clothing costumes and many more.
And today I and some of the existing teachers decided to use traditional clothes from several ethnic groups in Sumatra, Indonesia. Considering that in North Sumatra there are 8 ethnic groups that inhabit, such as the Malays, Mendailing Bataks, Toba Bataks, Karo Bataks, Nias, Simalunguns, Fakfak / Dairi and Coastal tribes, all of these tribes have regional traditional clothes and customs that all must be respected.
Before the Napak Tilas event began, the teachers and all students lined up first to perform a silent act and pray together for the previous heroes who had fallen. After the short ceremony was over, all of the students started their journey with great joy, even though they had to go through health protocols and with a limited number of students, we really enjoyed today, and I hope and pray that next year we can celebrate Heroes' Day. This is with enthusiasm and a more lively program of course.
Thus the anniversary of November 10 that we held this year at our school, hopefully in the future I can share more with you about other national day commemorations in Indonesia. That's all today I can share with you, hopefully all the differences that exist can unite us all. Good health, greetings from us in Binjai City, Indonesia.
