Manila Cathedral Time Travel to the 15th Century
Welcome to the 5th episode of our Nostalgic series. A church that started using bamboo poles and wood. Endured earthquakes, fire and the destruction of war. It has evolved thru centuries and has transformed into one of the majestic cathedrals in the Philippines.
Nostalgic Dreams
A series to try and replicate old photos from the past. A reimagining of some of my previous and future works, artificially turning back the clock and relive days gone by.
To make the timeline more convincing the theme should not include modern-day items or structures.
Erasing modern-day traces to give a more convincing look from the past.
It has also been 4 years since I last visited this cathedral in the walled city of Intramuros in Manila. A popular tourist destination
Below is the link to some of the original photos from my lost watersnake101 account. You could also read more information about the cathedral and also a favorite wedding location.
On top of the entrance are Latin inscriptions that translate to "To Thy Immaculate Heart, Entrust us and Consecrate us". The stone carvings are beautiful and as I recall I stood there for a while just to look at the carvings.
I was not able to roam around the church as there was a mass going on during this time. We planned to go back again but it never pushed thru.
In the photo of the interior, there were a lot of tv monitors and electric fans. It took me a while to get rid of them. The monitors attached to the pillars were a bit easy to get rid of but the electric fans were a bit tedious. Perhaps I may still have missed some modern items and let me know if you spot them. I have added the original photo as a comparison of the before and after edits.
Here I used a little yellowish old paper texture with minimal scratches and stains.
For sure you would notice the plastic chairs which do not belong in this era. I wanted to remove them but seems impossible. I could have replaced them with marble floors but I would still need to learn how to do that.
The ceilings of the Manila Cathedral are beautiful along with the columns and design on the arches. I believe the dome was added during the 18th century.
A replica of Michelangelo Buonarroti's "Pieta" is housed in this church.
In the photo below there was an air-conditioning unit attached to the wall. I noticed it at the last minute. My work is a bit sloppy in removing it as you could still notice a trace of it on the wall where it was located.
I like the stains on this photo giving it a dirty look but not too much.
It was fun working on these photos today and I hope you enjoyed our time machine. I just hope I could visit more new churches soon and turn back the clock.
Thank you for joining us again and hope to see you soon back in time.
