Musk oxen, native to the Arctic regions of North America and Greenland, are robust herbivores well-adapted to the harsh tundra environments. Recognizable by their thick, shaggy coats and distinctive curved horns, musk oxen form tight-knit social groups to protect against predators like wolves and Arctic foxes. Despite their somewhat stoic appearance, these herbivores are agile and can reach impressive speeds when needed. Musk oxen are also known for a unique defensive behavior called "circle the wagons," where they form a defensive circle with their horns outward to protect vulnerable members, especially calves, from potential threats. Their luxurious wool, known as qiviut, is prized for its insulation properties and is a valuable resource for Arctic communities.
