Wondering what this black photo has to do with World photography day?
I used to be a photographer.. started as a hobby like everyone else with my first camera.. a digital one.. 2 megapixel at a time when that was good enough. I was fresh out of college and started working as a graphic designer.
Nikon Coolpix 2200, bought in August 2004. Took about 9k pic with it before getting a DSLR in 2007.
Those were the initial Flickr days. Flickr was bubbling with energy and social media was far away from fake influencers and trolls. There were meaningful communities which went beyond online boundaries. We made lot of good friends there who made difference in our life not just in photography skills.
Photography helped shape my career. Moving from IT to media and later to run an own photo agency. At its peak in 2008, this Lower Pro bag hanging in the pic was hanging on my back more than 15hrs a day.
That was me during one of the Flickr meetups in 2008
I took a turn in my career in 2010 moving into corporate life. Photography was a small part still .. doing more product shoot and later videos. I handled higher quality company cameras and my old one was sidelined. I never wanted to upgrade it and my personal photography was laid to rest along with it. Occasionally to takes some pics of my kid when the pro cameras weren't around was it's only duty call. The same task of copying from SD cards seemed to look difficult with new age mobile phones uploading directly to social media and online drives.
I changed my job again. And now photography is not a part of JD anymore. And finally last week after 14 years I bought a new gen mirrorless. Nikon Z50 ... Yeah once Nikon, always.. š
And I started loving my photography back. May be it's my new kid, or the new camera, taking photos started to give me happyness again.
And coming back to that first photo, on this day, coincidentally on a World photography day, after 11 years, I took my old Lower pro bag back from the dust in attic, washed and dried it, ready to be packed for the next photography trip š
Happy photography day
Happy clicking, shutterbugs!
I'm ready to join you back
