I've been collecting lighthouse photos for a while. Just on the coast of my state, in southern Brazil, there are 24; still gotta visit 20. However, none of the lighthouses have such a picturesque story between me and the site. I'd been cycling between the border of Hungary and Austria for a week or more. It's November, so it's already snowing and my butt is freezing. After enough of farmlands, I decide to deviate westwards into Austria, to a village named Mönchhof. To my surprise they're having a small Christmas market and I quickly draw attention to my fully rigged bicycle -- I guess there's nobody else cycletouring during the winter. The elderly spoke clear English, so we chatted while they offered me wine. I got drunk. Still battling to balance, I continue cycling. It's freezing and a place to camp is much needed. That's when I came across this charming lighthouse.
The photos aren't perfect. I was drunk. The wind was cutting through my clothes, flesh, and bones. At least I have the photos to remember that day.
Podersdorf Lighthouse
The lighthouse is located at the western edge of Podersdorf at the small harbour. It has a height of about twelve metres, which is enough to be visible from afar in the flat landscape of the region. The tower was built as a landmark and for storm warnings for water sports enthusiasts and is now a tourist attraction.
