A largely uneventful day today where I walked around a small town but didn't quite feel anything that I saw. I've walked around here before quite a few times, but today felt like one of those days where trying to run-and-gun things just isn't going to really work out. Mostly because of the lack of light that was found in the area. These overcast days with plenty of diffusion can be nice under the right environments, but here things are a very flat tone, a town in which there isn't much artificial light and green spaces are few and far between. I still enjoyed the walk around, but I didn't quite capture anything that felt like it really stood out to me. I felt a bit aimless in my roaming. A bit desperate to try to find something. Instead I mostly just sat at benches or considered how I'd like to shoot something in the area with some different gear.
I had my gimbal with me but the 35mm lens was on the camera, it felt a bit too tight in the alleys of old Soviet buildings. Where vast modernist structures await that have plenty of beauty to them as they've been reclaimed by nature. I really wanted to capture this with a wider focal length. There was something interesting about how the golden growth mixed with the concrete structure felt like quite a contrast, very interesting at how different the two were. I couldn't really capture it all without everything being quite tight within the frame due to the 35mm, perhaps that was ultimately the main reason as to why I returned home feeling a bit unsatisfied. I don't usually feel this, but sometimes the limitations of gear can strike and sometimes the days just don't quite work out as you'd like. A bit of a lazy Sunday in the end.
I still found some news areas that seemed interesting to me. Some new areas I'd love to return to and shoot on a better day, with more appropriate gear. There's a lot of beautiful history in the area which doesn't really get much attention. After all, this small town is mostly known for the church and not the Soviet architecture that is found elsewhere. Though even here there was an odd atmosphere present throughout the day, where the small town was much more densely populated due to an election that taking place. You'd see flyers all over the place, though the vast majority you could see where met with disapproval from the locals, with many on the floor or with tears throughout. I could understand, after all. Many of these had been placed on the buildings and entrances to them. Where the last places people would want politics thrown into their eyes.
Though the highlight of it all was coming across these two stray dogs which had found significant comfort in a mound of mud. Laying in the strangest poses and generally unbothered by anything or anyone around. As if this was the most normal thing to have been taking place that day. The stray dogs in this area are definitely quite unique in that sense, strong characteristics.
