Since I got myself a new phone, I picked up photography again and have been trying to hone my abilities to be able to produce appealing photos of whatever I deem fit. In my last "product photography" post, I shared about how I have been trying out product photography. And I have been intentional about it.
This week, a friend reached out to me about the berets she makes and asked if I could try something out of them. And for some reason, I was excited about the request and that I had some work to do, but most importantly, I got to add to my experience as I got feedback.
I had no idea how I was going to proceed with the job. I had no concept that I was going to explore to achieve something cool. All I just thought about was what needed to be accentuated so customers would feel attracted to patronizing my friend's beret business—the embellishments.
is a hairstylist, and she has a mannequin, so I thought to borrow them and use them to present how they would look on a person's head. I reached out to her and got it over to my place. And little by little, the pieces were coming together.
I started by taking photos of the berets individually first, in case she'd like to share them individually, just to show the different embellishments on each one. And then I took them together. It was at this point that the ideas were coming to my head, and then I started trying out more ideas.
Since I had my regular lighting for my videos in the background, I simply turned them on to add more "feeling" to the photos. And also, my backdrop seemed to make it all look nicer in the end.
Of course, the photos you see here are not what they looked like at first. I took them all through Lightroom, which I have been exploring more lately, and ran some edits to get exactly what I felt were necessary.
It was an iterative process as I kept going back and forth with asking my friends around me how they saw what I had done and then making the necessary corrections.
It may seem like not much was necessary for these shots, but I was aiming at stunning my friend and making her glad she gave her product to me.
She loved them, and it seems like I might come to her mind first next time based on her reaction.
