I heard the squeals, but my problem was to find his hiding place.
Not easy to find him, but common sense told me that he would be in the same tree that I found his mother with her prey before.
I did post the mother in the tree a while back and she must be pleased that junior can now find prey and eat on his own. He is also big now and the changes in his colors will also start soon. Grey, with a small yellow head and twin white stripes on his tail. The size of his head was designed for him to stick his head into bird nests and holes in the ground to get rodents.
Let's have a look at him.
The cries of delight were coming from that high grey-green tree at the right hand of the picture. He sat in that top bend of the tree trunk.
Yep! He is a big boy now and he is a juvenile Harrier Hawk.
That's the loud cry of achievement that helped me to find him.
I could not quite see what he was eating, due to the bad light.
Finally, he was done and he took off.
Here below is something that I got much later in the afternoon.
Three shots of some Pied Crows, and the last one is my favorite.
Oops! Not easy to take off in the strong wind.
Finally, this last shot of the 4 crows was the icing on my cake for the day.
It is at times like this that I am thankful for the strong zoom on my Canon Bridge camera. All of the photos in here were taken at a distance on the zoom, and you can see that they didn't come out too bad. At times in better weather, I also take photos of closer stuff in nature, such as flowers and insects, but my first love is to get the birds of prey and other animals on the zoom. Some of you might have seen my baboon posts and much else that I have shared here in my blog over the years.
Mountains and the ocean are close by for zoomed landscapes, and a host of other stuff like sculptures etcetera are also available. Not even to talk about the many beautiful wine farms that we have here, and almost every day I find something different. Thankfully I never have a lack of inspiration, or writers block, as there is so much to see. Life should be seen as an adventure, and I have had many over my almost 70 years on this planet. Way too much to count, and I will simply continue until I am no more.
Such is life.
I hope that you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
