We had our scheduled power cut at 12:00 (noon), and a little Fiscal bird was waiting as we arrived.
I normally use one of the three power cuts in the day to go out for some photos.
Today I have a variety of pictures to share with you and our temperature was hovering around the 24C mark. There is so much to see here in the different parts of our areas, close to the town and we only take short trips during the power cuts. Today we popped down to a local golf course, but my photos as you will see had nothing to do with the game of golf, as my focus was on nature. It is amazing to see how the wild citizens of nature fit in with the developments of mankind.
Imagine that, as we entered the place I heard the song of my little favored Southern Double-collared Sunbird (Cinnyris chalybeus).
Okay, I admit that I got a bit greedy, as I haven't seen him for a while, so I took a few photos of him that I will share in another post.
Something was flying my way and its beak was so bent that I thought it was the boxing champion of the birds :)
Only joking as it was an African Sacred Ibis (Threskiornis aethiopicus).
Look at the perfect round ball of pollen that the bee shapes on its legs.
It fiddles across the surface of the flower to collect the pollen.
Just the normal domestic arguments of the Red-knobbed Coots here below (Fulica cristata).
This is a Moorhen with her babies (Gallinula chloropus).
In the two photos below, you will see the size of the feet of the two Moorhen teenagers.
Noticed something? Their feet are not webbed like the feet of the red-knobbed coots.
A flock of Starlings came over and they looked like the Red-winged Starlings (Onychognathus morio).
Here I got them in the distance going over the mountain.
And finally, it was time to go back home.
Yes, I have posted mostly birds here, as I see them as an integral part of nature and to me, they are better looking than a bunch of guys swinging and swearing at their golf clubs. I am not joking, as we heard one guy passing us and talking to his phone about his Par 3 with some choice swear words that you will not find in a dictionary. My wife's ears turned red :)
Why do bad workmen always blame their tools?
But I digress and we avoid the golfers as much as we can as we and the birds don't talk their language. It is all about nature and the beauty that can be found in it. Where there is water, there the birds will be and all kinds of Mother nature's other smaller residents. Regardless whether there are groups of men walking past the dams, and I think that the birds, and even the insects, have gotten used to people passing them by.
The reason why we come here, is that it is a beautiful wide and open space, where one can see most of the mountain range in the distance, and it is ideal for photography.
I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the story.
And That's All Friends.
