It is said that half a cup is better than an empty cup.
"Throwe no gyft agayne at the giuers head for better is halfe a lofe then no bread" John Heywood [1497-1580].
I know that this is difficult to read, but it simply means that half a loaf is better than no loaf. In other words, something like do not be dismayed if you cannot get what you need, as something is better than nothing.
I wonder how many times this has happened to all of us. Some, out of pride, would rather have nothing instead of half of what they wanted. But there is also another saying that one must take what one can get. It often happens to me, and my photography, as today, for instance, I had a clear shot of a crow flying over the moon's face, but I slipped and subsequently the shot was lost.
We are struggling with the clouds here and a few times now my full moon shots, that I dearly wanted, were clouded over. So, what do I do, I simply take half a moon when I can get it. As you will see below, sunset was near and I had to use some patience to get the shots of the half a moon in here. Am I happy? No. Am I sad? No. As that is what happens in life, and many other situations.
Come and see below.
This is how it all started near sunset.
Oh yes, the moon started to appear after the clouds were blown over it.
Bingo! At last, I got a good shot at it, but I wanted to get a half a moon, and this one below was still a bit skew.
The cloud cover was starting to clear and only some strings of sunset clouds could be seen.
Ever so slowly the clouds were also starting to disintegrate.
And that's when I got this half a moon to show you.
Yip! The sunset was gone and night set in.
And finally, I got this last shot of the moon.
Right, it was done and I don't know where the idea came from that prodded me to think of the title of this post. They say that in all situations one must be thankful, as it's supposed to strengthen us against the vagaries of life, as then we can accept them. Like the ocean waves our days pass by, some days on a high, and others on a low. Another problem is that the higher one goes, the inevitable low comes down in a crash. Some say life is what you make of it, and others just seem to cruise through life. Never easy, but I always say. Such is life.
I hope you enjoyed the pictures and the story.
