Now I don't know if this is a new fashion in the bontebok land, but it looked a bit troublesome to me :)
It seems that the young lady was launching her new brand of hats and she was doing a bit of marketing.
The bontebok camp was very busy, as a troop of guinea fowl were also doing their thing in the background. It is a very big camp and the bucks are free to eat, roam and run to their hearts content. I took all of the photos on my zoom, as they were about 150-200 yards away. So come and let me show you the area and the goings on where the bonteboks live.
Now I have to say that the new hat looked very umm... flimsy?
The guinea fowl were further away, and the mountain backdrop was covered by misty clouds.
Oh yes, she paraded her new invention.
Time for a rest as it is tough work being a model out on the catwalk. Or is that the grasswalk?
A bit of a closer shot of the guinea fowl society.
And this was the best that I could get on the zoom.
The rest of the buck family kept well away from the lady with the new hat. I don't think that they liked the new hat. People don't like change you know, and the animals are the same.
So the young lady got rid of the hat and the wind blew it away.
Another failed small business start-up as she didn't advertise her new invention well enough.
This is the same buck that jumped the fence of the camp that I showed in a post a while ago. A very adventurous buck and it's not scared to take chances, or to grab opportunities.
She might even be a member of the local bontebok anti-littering society and was out showing what one can do with recycled materials. Who knows?
In any case something else happened.
Look what came in to sit near me on the road. I call them Smarties as we have multicolored little sweets here.
It is in fact a Crimson Speckled Footman (Utetheisa pulchella)
The area is filled with many kinds of insects and other forms of life and it is always pleasant to take a long walk here on the Vergelegen Wine Estate. It is a historical farm and we come here often as there is always something new on show in nature.
So the next time that you visit South Africa, put this farm on your travel agenda as they make world renowned wines and there are two restaurants on the property. Also, a great place to book a tour, or to take a hike and it is a photographer's paradise.
Have a look at their website;
