Via this post I would like to share with You few ideas on how to became a storyteller through your photographs. Photography is all about conveying the message. It is not so much about What you are shooting, but How you are shooting it.
Example 1:
By manipulating the depth of field, and shooting on his eye level, I am making this little dude the main protagonist of this photo. The viewer sees the world through his eyes. Green stink bug has just become a fearless hero, discovering the big city. Within the viewer is aroused curiosity about adventures he will embark on. We are rooting for you little man!
Example 2:
Photographing the connections between different characters in your photographs will definitely evoke a reaction from viewers.
In the next example, you can see the conversation between little girl and her father. The man is patiently listening and acknowledging this lady, which evokes sweet emotions within the viewer.
If I add into the picture a loyal dog following them, and plane strokes appearing in the sky, I am intensifying the pleasant emotions within the viewer even more.
Example 3:
You can also create an interaction between the characters you are taking a photo of, and your camera. If you manage to provoke the reaction about being photographed, you will immediately have the story on your photo.
In the next example, you can see the same protagonists shown in the picture above, looking at my camera - making the photo direct and powerful. As a contrast, we have their loyal dog, still following, making two of them even more powerful.
The man is here to protect the girl, and the dog is here to protect them both. Little lady is the brave one, because she has double protection.
All this creates the feeling of union between these characters which viewer appreciates, even if the protagonists are turned against him. We are social beings who are longing for union within our family, which is why we will perceive this photo as positive.
Example 4:
Telling the story about someones character by shooting in specific way always produces special photos.
In the example above, you can see my dog Mariposa. She is fearless, know it all, a happy-go-lucky dog. It seems to me that this dog is convinced she can do Anything she wants (regardless of the limits I am trying to set).
In her mind, the sky is the limit. Exactly what I wanted to show in the photograph.
I encourage you to share your stories through photography.
Be fearless, be brave, and enjoy your day!
Mariposa sends kisses to all :)
