Today I want to introduce you to one of the most beautiful and colorful lizards in Costa Rica, Esmeralda Swift Caresheet, (Sceloporus malachiticus).
They can be found from Mexico to Panama and they adapt very well to different climate and forest conditions, so it is common to see them from almost sea level to 3800 meters of altitude. They tend to be comfortable with human presence and that is why they like places like gardens and house walls.
They have a small size reaching up to 20 cm long. Its body can change colors ranging from emerald, turquoise, and dark gray. It feeds on small insects and its main predators are large birds such as hawks. During the day tule perch on exposed branches or rocks to warm your body. During the nights they hide in small cavities in the ground.

Hoy les quiero presentar a una de las lagartijas más bellas y coloridas de Costa Rica Esmeralda Swift Caresheet, (Sceloporus malachiticus).
Se les puede encontrar desde México hasta Panamá y se adaptan muy bien a diferentes condiciones de clima y bosques por lo es común verlas desde casi el nivel de mar hasta los 3800 metros de altitud. Suelen sertirse cómodas con la presencia humana y por eso gustan de lugares como jardines y tapias de casas.
Tienen un tamaño pequeño llegando hasta los 20 cm de largo. Su cuerpo puede cambiar de colores qué van desde esmeralda, turquesa y gris oscuro. Se alimenta de pequeños insectos y sus principales depredadores son aves grandes como los halcones. Durante el día tule poséase sobre ramas o rocas expuestas para calentar su cuerpo. Durante las noches se ocultan en pequeñas cavidades en la tierra.
