We come to Boppelsen when we want to have some comfort food as our favourite restaurant is right in the heart of the village. Honestly, I think that we go there less than once a year as we try to eat healthy, but there are some days when we feel like eating something comforting and this is our choice. We have been there a few times already, but we have never walked around the village before, so let's see it together!
It was a great evening as we went for a walk, ate delicious food and enjoyed this amazing sunset. All in one!
We went for a walk after our dinner, but I will show you around first before I show you the restaurant.
Boppelsen is a typical Swiss village located about 30 minutes drive from Zurich. It has less than 1500 inhabitants, and I'm convinced that most of these people work in Zurich as usually there is not much to do in such small places unless you are a farmer or work in hospitality.
It's further away than Zurich for us, but it's much faster to get there as traffic towards Zurich is horrible at any time of any day.
It reminds me of holiday villages in the Alps. There were many people barbecuing in their gardens or sitting on their balconies and chatting, so it didn't feel like a workday evening...
It was supposed to rain all evening, so we were lucky (and surprised) to see blue skies and sunset...
The village was perfectly clean and so well maintained...
We saw some gardens that I would love to have as well. The one on the left was lovely. I couldn't take a picture of the entire garden because there were people barbecuing on the far left, but you get an idea. I love that tiny garden house and sitting area made out of pallets...
Even here they have a fountain with drinking water...
From afar we thought that this was a church because of the tower, but it's the town hall π
And now you know how a typical Swiss village looks like π
We were full after our dinner, so instead of driving home we walked up a nearby hill to enjoy the views and kick off our digestion...
And the sunset was so beautiful that we were not ready to leave yet...
And now to the dinner part.
When we arrived at the restaurant we were seated outside under a big bushy chestnut tree. The clouds were getting thick and dark, and I had a feeling that we would have to move inside later on. And we indeed did..
We just got our drinks when it started to rain, so we asked the waiter if we could go inside. There were still some free tables, so it was not a problem.
It's like a completely different place inside. It is warm and cosy, and there are many cute little decorative items...
We were sitting on the porch which is completely covered, so this used to be the façade of the house in the past and we could see inside through the original windows.
Our food came fast, and we couldn't wait to eat it!
All food that we ordered was fried π Here we can see some vegetable tempura and samosas...
Followed by schnitzel with fries! It was so good, but I have enough of it for a long time now π
There were some containers with herbs on the windowsill and I recognized some herbs that I'm growing on the balcony or in the garden.
I have just realized that I didn't take a photo of our desserts! We shared ice cream and tiramisu. It was nice, but a bit too much after all our food...
Even though we don't come often the owner of the restaurant recognized us and came to our table to talk with us for a bit. We always feel welcome there and will come back again (maybe not this year, but the next one for sure π)
See you next time!
