Welcome to my blog. Hope all are doing good.
Wedding bells were ringing in my family. It is a traditional wedding with colorful ceremonies and celebration may extend for several days.
The pre wedding and post wedding rituals vary by regions.
In india, by law and tradition, no Hindu Marriage is complete unless the rituals of seven steps and vows in presence of fire is completed by groom and bride together.
As I am Marwadi, from rajasthan, I am sharing marwadi wedding pics in my family of my sister and brother.
Rituals In rajasthan
In my family wedding starts with the meetting for the engagement (tilak), the Baan( starting of the wedding ceremony), the Mel(feast), the nikasi(departure of the bridegroom party for the wedding), the dhukaav(reception of the wedding parry at the brides place by her parents), lastly the feras(fire vows ) and bidaai( the departure of bride).
A sherwani is worn by the bridegroom along with a turban. He keeps a sword in his left during the ceremony.. A bride wears a Lehenga or poshak. They wear jewellery like the Rakdhi on the forehead, the sheesful as the head gear, the nath as the nose pin, bangdis as bangles and payal as anklet.
So I am sharing some pics here of the ceremony which held in past days of marriage.
1.BYAAH HATH and GANESH PUJA
Here the women from the families of the bride and groom celebrate the upcoming nuptials by singing Managal geet in their homes and makes Mangodis( made up of Moongdal). This event organized as five days before marriage.
There will be a small puja of lord Ganesha. It is believed that God would be a part of the wedding as a small boy, so young child called bindayak accompanies both the bride and the groom through their rituals.
The bride and the family members are making Mangodis.
2.Haldi or Baan ceremony
In this ceremony the bride and the groom are the main victims🤪.
Relatives apply haldi paste on the bride and the groom. This paste has turmeric and sandalwood in it which brings glowing and radiant to the skin before the big day. yellow is the colour of the event.
3.NIKASI.
This is the ceremony of grooms sides. Just before the groom heads out for the wedding venue, Barart. The grooms sister will ties a golden or red thread sehra(headgear) around the grooms head and then apply a black kajal to ward of an evil eye. The groom will be seated on Mare(ghodi), which the groom would ride.
4.Dhukaav and Varamala
This is the time where the grooms side relatives will enjoy the dance and music. The all relatives come together to enjoy the tradition form of dance.
The groom and his family friends arrived at the venue. The bride maid and family members stand with garland to welcome the group.
The mother of the bride welcomes the groom by touching the shoulder by her chunar. The groom has to touch the toran at the welcome gate with a neem stick.
After this the groom will enter in and the bride will come with her maids and sisters. They come on the stage and exchange the garland. This is known as varamala.
5.Kanyadaan
In this ceremony the father of bride put haldi on brides hands and hand her over to the groom and ask him to take the responsibility.
5.Panigrahan / feras and sindoor daan
In this the hand of the bride is put in the grooms hand. This symbolizes the grooms willing acceptance of taking the responsibility of the bride. Pani means hand and grahan means to accept.
Then the bride and groom will go around the holy fire 4 times.
With each round-the- couple takes solemn marriage vow which they are accepted to fulfill the rest of the life. After this ceremony the groom will put Vermillion (sindoor) on the central hair of the bride and then they are considered as husband and wife.
After this vidai of the bride will be there, tears well up in the eyes of the bride and members of her family as she leaves her house. It is very touchy moment and few tears might escape from your eyes also if you happen to be present at the vidaai ceremony of Rajasthani wedding. I couldn't take oic of this moment. But I clicked a smiling photo of my sis😊.
I Hope you have enjoyed reading and seeing photos of Rajasthani marawadi wedding rituals... thankyou for your time to read this post.
