I was inspired by thisismylife's recent blogging challenge on @liketu, 'The 30 Pictures 30 Stories Challenge'.
They were originally inspired by rubencress '30 day not-so ordinary ordinary items challenge' and both challenges are a great way to encourage daily posting on hive.
This challenge is pretty open-ended; please feel free to follow my formula, or thisismylife's or rubencress' challenge structures listed in their posts linked above 🔼
The only stipulations are that you post one picture daily with a personal story for 30 days.
Write your story/anecdote to the best of your ability, and use the tag #30stories and/or the #notsoordinary & it's also advised to use the #challenge tag.
As I am a professional writer outside of hive blockchain and only dabble as an amateur photographer, I thought I would loosely follow thisismylife's challenge format to tell some stories and anecdotes about my strange life.
This is my fourth (and I think the best) attempt at Selective Colour Photography.
This time I decided to stick more closely to the technique of isolating a colour that really stands out from the surrounding area.
I took all of these photos today at the Saturday service at The Anglican Cathedral, described by the poet 'Sir John Betjeman' as one of the great buildings of the world.
But despite neither me nor my girlfriend being religious, it was different today because the choir were in full chorus, and they were playing the largest pipe organ in the UK, which is also one of the largest musical instruments in the world.
We sat transfixed as the music echoed through the vaulted heights, and even during the priest's sermons kept a respectful silence. I personally don't believe you have to be religious to gain certain feelings and the presence of emotion from places of worship.
It is to do with peace, a certain sublimation of the ego and just the atmosphere in general. This is why I fundamentally (yes I use the pun intentionally) do not understand religeous fundamentalism or wars between faiths.
The title image is of the high altar at the far end of the cathedral, covered in gilt gold leaf it is truly a spectacle, and pays homage to the wealth of the church of England 😂
I wanted to really draw attention to the fabulous effect this alter has in drawing the eye. The other pictures I took that day were interesting, and as they were all in portrait mode I decided to add them together into one high-definition image.
But the true star of the show is that altar.
Let me know in the comments if you agree?
It took a huge amount of time using layering techniques and the 'paths tool' to create this Selective Colour Photography image.
I am open to criticism, and always willing to learn and hear different viewpoints.
Thanks for reading 🌿
