Gifts are special for everyone. Be it children, adults, elder people, all get excited when they get a gift or hear that they'll be soon getting a gift.
And why not? After all, who doesn't want to feel loved and cared for, and giving gifts is one of the most common ways to make anyone feel so.
However, giving gifts doesn't mean we can only exchange high-range branded gifts with each other. No, gifts need not to be expensive, they must only contain lots of love, care, blessings, and value for the person we are giving it to.
For eg - If you want to show respect to your teacher by giving them a gift, then only a simple pen will do and they will be happy and you need not to worry about buying an expensive present.
Gifts only need to look like you have love and concern for the other person and your task is done.
However, if you earn good money and want to gift anyone better gift of your choice then it's up to you. It's up to you at what time, to whom, what gift, how expensive, you want to give to someone. My point is just that giving someone real gifts(that are given out of love, concern, respect) are not defined by monetary value. You can give anyone anything even if it worth very less. What matters is your motive behind giving the gift, how hardly you are trying to maintain a relationship, how much more you are trying to make the other person feel that they are important to you. What matters is you think to give someone a gift and make them feel they have a place closer to your heart in your life.
However, there are myths and superstitions associated with certain things. Below is the list of such things you must never give to anyone:
Handerchieves
The first that comes to the list of things we must never gift to anyone is handerchieves. Gifting hankies to someone is considered to be a sign of bad luck for someone we are giving it to. Handerchieves are used for wiping tears and nose. So, when you gift someone a handerchief they may think you are portraying that they cry a lot or you have seen them continuously sneezing in the public. Ultimately, you may lose your friendship with them.
On the other hand, it is also believed that in Sweden a man cannot gift a silk handerchief to the woman he loves as then the love of that woman for the man will fade away and she will stop loving him.
Shoes
According to some Christians, giving someone shoes is considered unlucky as it is believed that then the receiver will walk away from you. Also, in China giving someone shoes as a Chinese New Year gift represents bad luck.
Hence, we must not gift shoes to anyone, especially as a Christmas present and Chinese New Year present.
However, on the other hand, it is also believed that if you never gift anyone a pair of shoes, then it becomes obvious that you will remain shoeless in your after life. So, either give someone money so that they can buy themselves shoes on your behalf? Well, must say, tough choice!
Items on Sale
You may find it a bit profitable for you but you must never gift anyone items on sale or that from a factory outlet. Because if the person you are gifting to anyway finds it, then it can prove to be bad for your relationship and suggest that you were only being a miser.
Giving a Gift Back
When someone gives you a gift, never gift that same gift to some another person as a gift. If the person who has given you the gift anyway/anyhow finds it out that you have done any such of a thing, then you may face your break of a bond with them.
Empty Money Bags
You can gift money bags to people. That's okay. But what is not okay is gifting empty money bags to people. While giving a money bag to someone, just put Rs. 1 or 2 in it, but never give it empty as it shows that you want the person you are gifting it to - to remain penniless the entire life.
Knives and Scissors
It is believed that gifting someone sharp objects like knives, scissors, can completely damage or ruin your relationship with the person. Some people even do not take scissors directly from their loved ones. Or if still you want to gift scissors, you can take Rs 1 or 2 from the other person in return.
Pets
Well, there is no such myth associated with gifting pets. But, the obvious reason why we must not gift pet to someone is - the person you are gifting it to may not have enough space in their homes, time to take well care of the pet, or even do not want it. So, a lot of issues can arise altogether.
Voodoo Doll
The voodoo doll is believed to be used in black magic and attract negative energies. We also often see it in horror movies that a voodoo doll is used to harm people. So, it will not look good if you will gift someone a voodoo doll.
Dry Flowers
Flowers when dried lose all their shine, color, fragrance, and even smell bad. So, if you gift dry flowers to someone, they may think that you want them to remain dull and not prosper in life.
Anything that a person obviously can't or won't use
While giving a gift to someone we must use our brain first and don't rush into things. We must take time to acknowledge that the thing we are gifting to another person is useful or not. Only after we get satisfied in our minds and hearts that the thing is okay then only we must gift it.
To Sum It Up
Personally, I don't feel bad about getting anything as a gift, until and unless it is too bad and of no use to me. But not all feel and think they way I do. Some people consider myths about certain gifts, some are very particular about what to get as gifts, and some have other perceptions related to receiving gifts. So, my point is, while thinking to give a gift to someone, just first consider the other person's choice and perceptions, and then finally decide on what to give as a gift. It will be good for both - the giver and the receiver - in the long run.
