If I had the chance to refer to Utrecht in my blog posts, I probably have mentioned that Utrecht is a city located in the center of the Netherlands. It's most likely the place you got to go to first if you wanna get scattered to different places across the Netherlands. At least, it was for me. Whenever I had to visit Amsterdam or Den Haag by train, I probably had to make a stop in Utrecht. While this was years ago, I can't be sure if this is still the case.
The train station of Utrecht must be the biggest and busiest train station in the Netherlands. It's always packed with people. I used to play the piano here when I was traveling. I didn't mind skipping another train or taking a train later, just to play a little bit on the piano. Even if I visited my sister in my car, I walked to the train station, took some photographs, met up with some friends, and later played the piano before I was going back to my sister.
Utrecht is a stunning city. If you'd ask me. Usually, I only go to the central part of the city to do my business and get out. It's like a centralized exchange. One of my friends used to work in the city, and he was always asking whenever I had time to visit him. Oh man, we sure did have a lot of fun! Especially when I had to housekeep my sister's home. Of course, we went downtown and we were hammered. It was so funny because this guy vomited in his sleep and felt terrible after. Not persé because he was hungover, but more about the deed. A feeling that any other healthy person would feel, right? So, we took care of that and made sure everything was clean before my sister and her boyfriend came back. Great memories.
The block where my sister lived, was a pretty cool-looking neighborhood. I don't know why, but there were always flying some seagulls around, even though the sea is far away. I loved the contrast of these apartments, and these colors popped when I was looking through the viewfinder.
My sister also has this cute cat. "Slofie", oh man... this cat is surely something else. She was super shy and anxious, so whenever I came over, I desperately tried to show that I could be trusted with a lot of patience. I'd be sitting on the floor for 30 minutes, just reaching out, hoping that the cat would sniff my fingers (I don't judge her for not wanting to sniff my fingers, who the fk would)... this sounds so horrible lol. The thing with cats is, is that you need them to come to you and not the other way around. Especially if they show signs of trauma. Sometimes, this cat would come to me out of nowhere and be super polite and show some affection. But most of the time, it appeared to be flukes as she had forgotten who I was the next time that I visited my sister, and the cat disappeared in stress.
Visiting 'De Beurs' was always on my to-do list if I had some time when visiting Utrecht, but only if my friend was working. He was so proud working there and it seemed to be as if he was a ranking officer there, haha. It was always fun to see him working. He's super passionate about bartending, and we used to work together. I don't think he still works there, but I wouldn't be surprised if he had taken over the place with his loyalty.
Utrecht is cool
The bottom line is, Utrecht is cool and used to be a city that I would live in. I think I'm on the "waiting list" for 10+ years now xD. Well, if I was younger I'd probably go there, now that I'm getting old I just wanna vanish in a slow environment, with not that many people around me that can disturb me. I guess we end up like our parents sooner or later anyway! Nowadays, I barely am getting out of my city. On one hand I don't mind it at all, on the other, I sometimes miss a good adventure. Hopefully, when both Lackofcolor and I are in better health conditions, we can start going places and take some planes.
Cheers,
Ruben
