The Dutch word is "versterker", which directly translates to "amplifier". I had to ask what the correct translation is for a "Speaker System". Thanks, Kai! I thought it was called a Sound System. Learned something new today ^^. On the 9th day, I wanted to show my Speaker System. If you have been following me these last couple of days, you should know by now that I started a 30-day challenge to end this year. So far, so good.
Music
Like any other human being, I listen to music. Whether it be classic music, electric tunes, or silly music I made myself. Listening to instrumentals, I can get lost quite easily, so, I guess that the quality of good music can lift me up big time. There were times when I listened to music non-stop. Now that and I live together, I have to turn down the volume a bit, so having headphones on the side is quite nice.
The joy that I get out of good quality sound sometimes surprises me. With clear quality, you factually get to listen to music the way how it is intended. I have had this set for about 7 years and bought it for a decent amount of money. I always thought that JBL was a rival to Harman Kardon, as I remember that someone said that they perform better than the original Harman speakers. Turns out that Harman bought (or owns) JBL. Nice!
Harman is known for creating a deeper connection with music by delivering premium sound quality. I just caught myself on how much I care for quality. Having this set for over 7 years proves to me that it is very much worth the money, as I have been enjoying this set for almost a decade. Whenever I turn on music, which is how I start my day, I'm enriching the start of my day instantly with quality.
Enrichment
The intangible sense of enrichment is by far the best way to describe quality. You can get great quality out of "cheap materials", it is what you as an individual gets out of it that determines whether you are enriching your life with something or not. Personally, I know I have an 'expensive' taste, it always bothered me when I was a kid. But as of today, I realize it wasn't the 'more expensive' things that pulled me in, it was the potential, and quality that pulled me towards it.
My grandfather
I never knew my grandfather well. I wish I had the chance to talk to him. But that's impossible since he passed a long time ago. It is that I wonder if my "efficiency" is one of the traits I inherited from him, as he always compared, and made well-thought-out decisions before making the decision that mattered. I guess my grandfather also was in constant pursuit of wondering the why this and why that. My mother never speaks a 'good' word about him, so I have to filter out all the negativity and see what type of man my grandfather practically was. For example; " He always bought the most expensive and newest things for you all", could it be that he didn't buy it because it was expensive, but perhaps because it was more durable and that the enjoyment increased due to this longevity?
Playlist
I have had this playlist since I started my own company back in 2011. I think I lost my account a few years later at some point and had to move all the songs over to my new account. I've been updating this playlist once a week, where I most certainly have missed a few updates.
The playlist contains almost 900 songs.
The creative process
I had no particular idea to photograph this object. Instead, I just did an improvisation and took a few photographs from different angles. I figured a shot from the front would be the best way, and a final image started to build in my head. This included a decent amount of retouching and reconstructing a setting in post-edit. Everything, except for the system and the wooden shelf is (partially) fake. I love how this turned out. It would look like a set-up I see myself using whenever I buy a house with enough space. I left the on/off button as it is, so it would still show that the system has been heavily used.

About the challenge
Photograph and write a little bit about 30 ordinary items that I used a lot in 2022. You can read more about the challenge, and join yourself here. This challenge is just a little experiment.
The Spotify track-record
Pun not intended. Spotify always wraps up the year with a summary of the music that you have been listening to during the year. This is a great way to access a quick throwback of the year. It's surprising how much I listen to music, at the same time, I'm not surprised at all as it shows that I really care about music and that music is a big part of my life.
How do you listen to music?
A Speaker System is just one way to listen to music. It's the only purpose that this system has, so I figured linking music to it makes sense. As an introvert, it is the best way for me to listen to it as I hardly go out to concerts or clubs. Lol, luckily I have enough experience as a bartender to start my own 2 people club back at home. Music really makes me happy, so, it's normal that I would invest in a good sound system, right?
Cheers,
Ruben
