When I was living in Almelo, my cousin and his father were planning to pick apples for the Food Bank, so they can distribute the apples to those who are in need. My uncle does these kinds of things a lot (and my cousin is always there for him to give him a helping hand). They are always trying to take care of the community. I remember when I visited them when I was a little kid, everyone in the neighborhood knew who they are and everybody liked spending time with them a lot. My uncle has a very unique sense of humor, that can easily scare people away. It's harsh humor. But underneath that thick skin, there is a good-hearted man who always wants the best for his beloved ones and also his environment. They did a lot for me when I was younger. Unfortunately, I lost contact with them as I lost touch with my father 4 years ago (which I recently saw again), I never understood this, but I guess it would be called family loyalty.
Speaking of loyalty, my uncle has been doing this every year, for many years. I thought it was admirable and would love to help give them a hand and help them pick apples. I thought it was a careless act so I brought my camera with me because I wanted to document what they did for the community. While I'm documenting my memories on the blockchain and my "Personal Knowledge Management System", I thought it would be a good idea to share the good deeds of my uncle and my cousin (and a little help from me).
We needed to wake up pretty early, and pick apples from different places. Some places had just a few trees, and there was this one place where there were a lot of trees. Most of the photographs taken below are from an apple orchard that had plenty of apple trees to pick from. Of course, we tasted one or two apples during our hard labor. I'm not used to doing "hard work", but I can enjoy it for a day or two. It's more like good exercise. But yeah, it wasn't a joke! So it was more than expected for me to have some muscle ache the next day xD. Not used to anything anymore. Oh well, we had a blast together, and as I said before, I admire my family for doing this every single year, even though we haven't been in touch for a long period.
The harvest was quite a bit!
I was quite surprised we picked over 400kg of apples! The people who work at the Food Bank were quite happy to receive these apples. We kept a few apples so my aunt could make a delicious apple pie. And just like that, my uncle and my cousin are headed back home. My uncle isn't a person who is sharing his emotions easily, but you could tell he was satisfied with the day. The next day, we spent some more time bringing in another batch of apples and some pears.
Hope you guys enjoyed it,
Cheers!
