Happy Friday my AMAZING HIVERS
Another week has passed and now
the weekend starts π WOOT!
I wasn't sure what to share with ya'll
today, but going through my
Phone pictures AGAIN π
I thought I share some from my
birth town where my parents still
live and I still call home.
Ystad is known for being a beautiful tourist town with alleys and incredible half-timbered houses, restaurants
and much preserved history.
I will make a few posts about it,
but thought I start with a place that
is a BIG tourist attraction and
has much history.
Klosterdam Museum
The monastery is Ystad's city
history museum and one of Sweden's
oldest preserved monastery buildings.
An attractive destination for those interested in culture in Sweden,
Ystad and Γsterlen.
This is a place I went to visit lots growing up and it changes every year on the second floor, but this post is all about history of this place!
LET'S WALK!
St. Petri Church or the Abbey Church
is a church building in the northeastern
part of the city center of Ystad.
It belongs to Ystad's parish
in Lund's diocese.
There are even a badass miniatyr
of the church and museum, and here you can get a better picture of what
it looks like all together.
The church was started in 1267 and
forms part of the old gray brothers
convent in Ystad.
The church was the southern
part of the surrounding monastery.
It is a brick church typical of
the gray brothers.
In the Middle Ages, the church was associated with Saint Nicholas
and Catherine of Alexandria.
At the end of the 15th century
the grand west wall and the bell
tower were erected.
During the Reformation, the
monks were thrown out in 1532.
The monastery became a hospital, a distillery and a warehouse while the church became a regular
parish church.
In 1600, the northern and western
lakes of the monastery were
demolished and now only
ruins of these remains.
In 1908-1912 what was left of
the monastery buildings
was restored.
Today, the eastern part of Ystad's
city museum is used.
In 1967 the municipality took over
the monastery church and
had a renovation done.
Today, the church is used both for
worship and for museum
activities.

And... THAT
Brings us to the museum part,
and here is the entrΓ©.
As a kid I never thought it looked like much from here, but once you got inside
it looked really amazing π
This view is a favorite
A wiew that you se in most churches
and this is just above the bench
before the big stairs!
This Chandelier is huge and beautiful hanging over The main stairs, and
I am a big fan of the beautiful
paintings and writings to!
This is the first view of the second
floor, pretty cool right?
Some history on the wall while
walking up the stairs.
This is the wiew as you come up and to the right you se a old beautiful table, Windows and doors.
And now the door that takes you
into the big room with some
beautiful history!
Those wooden writings are beautiful,
but hard to read so I cant tell you
what they say!
And here is what it looks like once
you entered the room.
A painting representing the munks many upgrades through the years,
much has happened in time!
This is the amazing wiew of the big place they have the museum of the munks, and what the church
used to do back then!
This painting of a munk in his cell
was a favorite and the place next to it was his actual cell, and it gave an
idea how small space they had!
It says "Friar in his cell" Ilustration Petter LΓΆnegΓ₯rd
Only a tiny little Window and nothing else, really a quiet but for me a place
I would go all nuts π lol...
To small space!
AND... Now
A look around to see the many
tressures that was used back then,
and what it looked like.
This is a cool view π
Some beautiful tressure, and
especially that BIG tressure chest
caught my attention π lol
Letter to the city from Peder
Andersons widow Ingar 11/9-1682
She had then been granted a place
in the hospital, and in the letter
she writes about what she can give
in payment, including a cow.
The original letter is in the
provincial Archives in Lund!
All around there are windows with amazing old tressures.
Some really amazing Angels, and
I love the old Preach stool with
the beautiful paintings!
Love this view alot π

Many old pictures of important People

cant say who as I forgot to take a
closer shot π ugh.. Lol
The Reformation!
When Martin Luther wrote his chronics in 1517,he started a reformation
of the Christian church.
One result was that the monasteries
in the north were closed.
At the end of the 1520s the danish
brothers were forced to leave
their monastery. They were
acused of not preaching
in a proper way.
Mabye...
this was because the friar
brothers and Lutheranerna were
approatching the same
audience!
Martin Luther!
On 31 october 1517
Augustinian friar Martin Luther
presented his theses about
indulgence in the german
town of Wittenberg.
He did not think it was right
that one could sell documents
giving People forgiveness of sins.
Thanks to the printing press,
the translaced texts could be
quickly spread all over Europe.
These theses divided the catholic
church,much of which was reformed.
Kings and Princes were also pushing,
to gain access to the wealth
and powerof the church!
The Expolsion!
The Lutherans in Ystad had tried
to get rid of the friars in 1531,
but not succeeded then.
They wrote a letter of complains
to King Frederik, asking
for his support.
The King answered the letter 16
march 1532. He granted the town
the right to take over the monastery buildings, and the church on the
day the friars moved out.
The monastery would then be used
as a hospital, and the church
as a parish church.
It is not certain whether that letter
had reached Ystad by 24 march the
same year. But on that day the
Lutherans and their mayor Hans
Hjort entered the monastery,
they demanded the Keys.
When the Guardians asked to
see papers provning that the King
had ordered this, the citizens showed him a document without a seal.
The gurardian did not belive that it
was a real order from the King.
The friars were terrified and hid in
their cells, but they were pulled out
by force and were never allowed
to come back again.
This was done with such violance
that 3 of them died a few days
later, and the guardian was
imprisoned for 8 weeks.
The friars were not allowed to take
anything with them from the
monastery. Some of them
moved to other french
monastery in Europe.
There has been a Lutheran
congregation in Ystad since the
1520s. The Lutheran priest Mr.
Jacob from Ystad, is mentioned
in a document from 1530.
The city seems to have been divided
into a Catholic and a Lutheran
congregation in the early 1530s.
There were also 2 mayors at that time.

NOW
Last spot on this floor, and I
absolutly LOOVE this view.
I wouldnt mind sitting at this desk writing and reading π would you?
And that watch circle on the middle
of the floor is a Nice touch.
And now some pictures of the wiew between the stairs up to the museum, and the little shop were you can buy
some items that represent the
church and history!
A sculpture that is one of many here,
but this one just was a favorite.
The sea and fishing was important
back then and still are today π
So here are some cool fishing items.
I love fishing!
And some old photographs that is

about history and People.

Last stop
from the first floor but through a door that I never been before and the stairs are closed so I share the ones from where we could go!
Such amazing painting!
This is how I picture a monk to look like,
not that I seen to many movies
or anything... π Lol
The closed stairs
But underneath are a few nuns
and ofcourse the Pope!
A nun, and exactly how I picture
them to look like only in black π
I blame Sound of music... Lol

And I think this is a face most of
us regonize right? ππ
POPE FRANCIS!
