Once Mexico's Independence Day celebrations are over, the whole country prepares to celebrate the Day of the Dead, which, although still some time away, is another of the major celebrations that take place here. This celebration has become so internationalized that La Catrina (a character typical of this celebration) has been “adopted” as another Halloween costume. In truth, the two celebrations have nothing to do with each other, but since they take place on dates close to each other, I think this has caused some confusion.
