Gibara is a small coastal town in eastern Cuba, bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It is very close to where Columbus landed when he arrived in Cuba. It has been better known since the Festival de Cine Pobre (Poor Cinema Festival) began there in 2003. Outside of these festival dates, it is usually a very quiet town, where people go to relax, and as it is a fishing village, you can be sure to find good fried fish. Traveling there has always been like traveling back in time for me, especially at night when walking through its streets seems to transport you to another era. These photos were taken six years ago, the last time I was in Gibara and Cuba.
